      Advantages

      Disadvantages

putting the word 'cake' in this food title should be made illegal

Ok, im sorry, but there is no nice way to put this. These rice cakes are horrible. Now, please don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those people who has to have her food fried or dripping in fat or sugar to enjoy it. Im actually quite a health freak and LOVE clean, fresh, healthy, organic, yummy, nutritious, wholesome foods. As I myself suffer with a chronic condition, it is very important that I eat well and eat healthily. So let's just clear that one up. Im not simply having a whinge about these rice cakes beacuse they aren't covered in sugar. Im having a whinge because they are completely tasteless and nutritionally void of any goodness whatsoever. It is like chewing on a piece of dry chipboard. Now, they do have their plus points - they are a better snacking alternative to crisps or chocolate for those out there who are on a never ending quest to shed a few pounds or stop binging at the office desk throughout the day. Yes, these rice cakes will not cause you to balloon in weight, that is for sure. But, for all you dieters out there, you no longer have to suffer in silence while chomping on twenty rice cakes an hour and trying to pretend to your colleagues that you are actually really enjoying them. There are sooooo many good food choices out there now for those who want to eat healthy. Really tasty food choices like sugar free smoothies, nut bars, endless salad choices and so on. There is no real taste to these rice cakes and unless you smother them in something naughty then they don't provide you with an enjoyable eating experience. Oh, sorry, they do contain some salt.....yummy. Decide for yourselves, but these don't get my vote. You do get a lot of cakes for your money (they are so gross, they are giving em away!) and they do come in plain or wholemeal. Apart from that, im struggling...sorry!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

You could eat them with anything!(within reason)

I love these little cakes of wonder! At only 28 calories a slice and less than 3% they are made from Whole grain brown rice with a little smattering of salt, they are yummy. It is also reassuring that there is no hidden nasty's in the ingredients as they are made with no artificial flavors or additives I like the fact that they are just so versatile you can eat them with sweet or savory foods. I just love them with cream cheese and smoked salmon, cheese and pickle or a sweet option of peanut butter, honey and banana, the possibilities are endless! My daughter is nearly 2 and she enjoys them with honey and banana a great low - fat and low- salt snack that can be enjoyed by anyone not just adults and dieters. I would definitely recommend these cakes to wheat intolerant people as a crunchy alternative to bread.

Lush snack for on the go but don't pay to much!

yum low in fat rice cakes. I have recently gone on a mission to lose weight and I discovered my weakness is snacking! Crisps chocolate, biscuit I just love snacking and I cannot stop just like that. A friend at work who is also trying to lose weight suggested rice cakes as a snack. I popped to Tesco and 95p later came away with a nice fresh packet of rice cakes. The packet is white with a blue label the brand is KILLO. Rice cakes are low in fat and there are only 28 calories per slice so they are very good for losing weight and snacking. The packet shows rice cakes being eaten with cottage cheese and kiwi on top but personally I wouldn't put anything on them they are lush like they. They taste crunchy like crisps and slightly salty. We also use these at work (parent/career and baby groups) as a snack for the little ones the parents have been spotted sneaking them out there little ones bowls too! I find rice cakes are a perfect snack for on the go like a biscuit you can grab one to take with you when you are walking the dog etc! these are the best!! the only think I will say is shop around prices vary hugely I have seen them in a health food shop for £1.20 a packet in Tesco they were 95p but in Morrison they are only 75p much cheaper. Why pay more for the same item. I suggest if anyone sees them cheaper than 75p, they add a comment so we can all get them at the cheapest price!

        quick and healthy snack

I am terrible when it comes to snacking. I find myself sitting at my desk eating, chocolate, cakes or biscuits, all the tasty things in life. A few months ago I put a lot of effort in to losing some weight (see my exercise DVD review - shameless plug I know!), and I started to see it gradually creep back on again :-( So I started taking fruit to work which was ok but still left me feeling hungry later in the afternoon. My dad recommended I tried rice cakes so I went and bought a packet from the health food shop opposite my office. Shamefully it is actually closer then the shop I'd walk to to buy junk. I bought the slightly salted thin slice rice cakes and some apple and cinnamon ones to feed my sweet tooth. Surprisingly I preferred these slightly salted ones. They are about the size of a cracker and look like polystyrene but don't let that put you off. Also they smell quite strongly, a bit like salted popcorn. They really are only lightly salted so it's not overpowering but it is still enough flavour so you can just eat them on their own. I prefer the thin ones as I find the thick cut cakes make my mouth to dry when I eat them. Plus the thin ones last me longer as there are more in the packet. The packet is 130g which is about 25 rice cakes They don't contain any artificial Flavourings or additives; they are less than 3% fat and only 17 calories per slice. They are also naturally gluten free. They are also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Ingredients Wholegrain brown rice. Salt. They may also contain some traces of sesame seeds in case you have any allergies I have a packet of these on my desk at work and usually tuck in around 3 o'clock which keeps me going until my tea. I also use these instead of crackers and I love the serving suggestion on the packet. Slice some peppers and olives with a drizzle of olive oil and put under the grill. Gorgeous! As these only come in a thin plasic wrapper (the same as crackers) I keep mine in a sealed tub to keep them fresh. There are quite a few to chose from, salted, plain, savoury (flavoured with yeast extract), with sesame seeds, with oats, honey flavoured, cheese flavoured, you can also get them coated with milk or dark chocolate! These are a great healthy snack to help curb those cravings and I have found them very useful when trying to maintain my weight without starving myself! These rice cakes are £1.15 in Holland and Barret, not sure about the price in supermarkets though.
