Kelloggs Special K Bars
Advantages: Low in calories
Disadvantages: None for me
Since having Jayden 9 weeks ago I have bee trying to eat healthier and have been calorie counting in order to try and loose weight, however being diabetic means that my blood sugar levels can go low meaning I have to have something to eat, I wanted something that was going to raise my levels and maintain them but at the same time low in calorie so I decided to stock up on Special K Cereal Bars, I have had these in the past and like all of the different flavours they do so I recently purchased myself a box of the Red Berries flavour.
The Special K Cereal Bars come in a rectangle cardboard box, on the front of the box is the make of the cereal bars "Kellogg's" and the words "Special K Cereal Bars" written in large red and blue writing with the "K" being much bigger than the other writing, the flavour of the cereal bars "Red Berries" is also written at the bottom of the box in red writing. The rest of the box is taken up with a picture of red berries and one of the cereal bars. The back of the box has the name of the product in the same style as the front of the box and the rest of it is taken up with various product information such as a bit about Special K Cereal Bars, the ingredients and nutritional information. The cereal bars inside the box are individually wrapped in a plastic type wrapper with a foil interior, the wrappers contain exactly the same information as the box.
The Cereal Bars
Special K Red Berries Cereal Bars are described as a rice and wheat cereal bar with cranberry fruit pieces and a yoghurt flavoured topping, the cereal bars are exactly how they are described on the box, the wheat, rice and cranberry pieces are all fused together to form a bar shape, they have a slightly sticky feel to them, I do find that they are quite soft and can fall apart a little when you eat them.
The yoghurt topping is swirled over the top of the cereal bar and does add a slight creamy taste to the bar, however the actual yoghurt taste isn't that strong. The bars have a lot of fruit in them and the pieces are quite large, the cranberry pieces add a tang to the cereal bars and they take away some of the sweetness without the fruity pieces I think the bars would be a bit too sweet. Special K Cereal Bars are described as being a snack that bridges the gap between meals and range between 80 and 98 calories.
The nutritional information is clearly labelled on the back of the box and include
* Calories - 90 Cals
* Protein - 29
* Carbohydrates - 18g
* Fat - 1g
* Fibre - 0.5g
* Sodium - 0.05g

Personally I was pleased when I read the nutritional information, the Special K Red Berries Cereal Bars are both low in calories and low in fat making them ideal for a snack between meals and also to help me to maintain my sugar levels if they drop a bit low, I can happily have one of these and know that I am not consuming a large amount of calories and fat.
Price and Availability
Kellogg's Special K Red Berries Cereal Bars are widely available and can be purchased from a variety of supermarkets, they can also be bough as a single bar again from supermarkets as well as from corner shops and other shops with a confectionary section. I purchased my box of Special K Red Berries Cereal Bars from my local Tesco, you get 5 bars per box and they are sold for £1.99, however when I bought my box they were on offer for just £1.00, however I also think they are reasonably priced and worth the money when sold at full price especially compared to some other similar products. However the price does depend slightly on where you purchase them from and buying several bars in a box compared to singularly does work out a bit cheaper in the long run.
I would definitely recommend Special K Cereal Bars, they make a lovely healthy and tasty snack, they are low in fat and low in calories, these are ideal for anyone watching their weight, wanting to eat healthier or just someone who wants something as a tasty snack. I sometimes have one of these bars with my lunch as again it is a healthier alternative to something like a bar of chocolate. The cereal bars are very reasonably priced and also come in a wide range of different flavours, they can also be purchased as single bars rather than a large packet. I personally really like the red berry flavour as you get a large amount of fruit per bar and the tang of the fruit takes a little bit of the sweetness away so that they are not too sickly sweet, the fruit is also chewy and goes well with the crunchy cereal which makes up the majority of the bar, the yoghurt topping does add a certain amount of creaminess to the bar but in my onion does not really taste of yoghurt. I particularly enjoy the red berries Special K Cereal Bar and will certainly continue to purchase them and would recommend them to anyone as a tasty and healthy snack.
Summary: A tasty snack which is low in calories
