“ Brand: Marks & Spencer's / Type: Cake „
Marks and Spencer's certainly impress when it comes to personalised cakes! They offer a wide range of creatively designed cakes that are a talking point at any party. The prices are excellent for the standard of the cakes and give alot of other cake making companies a run for their money!
I recently had my 18th Birthday and had the pink 3 tier parcel cake that is shown in the picture above. It is also available in brown/white. I was worried that it wouldn't be as impressive as the picture as I ordered it online there was no way of seeing it before buying, but I took the chance and i'm glad I did because the cake was just as impressive in real life! At just £40, I consider this a bargain as I looked at so many other cakes that were rediculous prices for the same size and standard.
As for the cake itself, this particular cake was a jam and cream sponge cake, however there are chocolate and fruit cakes available on the website. Some people may say i'm over exaggerating but I would say it's the nicest cake i've ever tasted. It stayed soft for a long time after it was cut and the icing was sweet but not too sickly.
My sister had her 21st Birthday last year and she had a chocolate cake, also from Marks and this was designed and tasted to just a high a standard.
I would definately recommend Marks and Spencers cakes for special occasions as they taste as good as they look, something you can't often say about impressive looking cakes!
Hope this was a helpful review for anyone thinking of buying a cake from Marks and Spencers, If so I would really appreciate it if you rated my review :) Thanks.
Recently it was my finance's birthday, it has always been a tradition for him that he has a Marks and Spencer's Colin the Caterpillar cake (despite being 26) so sticking with the tradition I bought him one. The cake comes in a long green box with a clear plastic window on the top allowing you to see the cake inside. The words " Colin the Caterpillar extremely chocolatey cake" are written along the top and the side of the box including a picture of Colin eating a cube of chocolate, there is also a picture of Colin on each end of the box aswell. Along the top and side if the box there is also a description of the cake inside which says " filled with chocolate buttercream, covered in milk chocolate with a decorated white chocolate face and sugar covered milk chocolate beans" Personally I feel that this is a very accurate description of the cake. The back of the box has all the boring, but necessary information. This cake is suitable for vegetarians (this is stated on the back of the box) there is also allergy information on the back of the box informing consumers that the cake contains cows milk, eggs, soya and gluten and that it is not suitable for those with nut allergies. Also on the back of the box are the usual GDA's
GDA per 1/10 cake
The weight of the cake is 625g and all of the packaging is recyclable, including the tray the cake is placed on within the box.
The description of the cake on the box really is the only way to describe it. The cake itself is like a large chocolate Swiss roll filled with chocolate buttercream. The sponge is in no way dry, it is very moist and chocolatey. The whole thing is covered with think milk chocolate, I was very impressed with the amount of chocolate that covered the cake, usually it is only a very thin layer however with this cake the chocolate is much thicker!!!! The caterpillars face is made of solid which chocolate, with its features made from sugar covered chocolate beans, these are also placed along the back of the caterpillar for decoration. The caterpillar also has 3 solid white chocolate feet on either side. The whole cake is served on a silver tray. I was very impressed with this cake, there was plenty of chocolate for those who like us love chocolate!!!!!!!! T
he cake is also a good size, it states that it serves around 10 people, I'm not sure whether you would quite get 10 pieces out of the cake, this would depend on how big you cut them, we certainly didn't get 10 pieces out of it!!!! This cake is probably aimed at children and would be ideal for a birthday party, if using it for this purpose you would probably get more smaller pieces out of it, however it is also a good cake for adults aswell who would have a lager piece meaning it would not stretch as far. Overall it is very tasty, very chocolatey and serves several peoples, it is suitable for the whole family and certainly a birthday cake I would recommend!!!!!
I brought this cake for my sons 1st birthday from marks & spencers i had never brought a cake from them before but heard they were very nice and worth the money.
I decided to go into my local store in Huddersfield a week before to place order it was good i did because you have to wait 7 days to collect it, the staff were very helpful making sure all the order was right and helping me chose a collection time that suited me as they don't deliver.
The cake was a chocolate ark-shaped decorated with animals, filled with chocolate ganache, covered and decorated with soft icing. The cost was £42 but it did serve 50 good size portions.
When i went back in 7 days the cake was ready very well presented in a box. You pay for the cake when you order it so i was in and out the shop in 5 minutes.
The cake was lovely i would highly recommended their cakes it was very soft sponge and did'nt dry out like some other cakes.
Marks & Spencer's excel themselves when it comes to ready made christmas, wedding, birthday or anniversary cakes..............we know , we have eaten them and we love them all.
My own wedding cake was a large fruit M& S cake decorated by myself ( we had a quick , quiet wedding ) and in March 2009 my sons 18th birthday cake will be the brown version of the photo provided above , complete with 18 candles .
The fillings are : Chocolate .............OMG heaven simply heaven .
And plain madeira ............cant make up my mind if this is better than chocolate or not , never mind just eat it all !
The icing is fondant , which over the years I have grown to love as its less sickly ( if thats a word) than the normal sledge hammer and chisel royal icing !
I also love the artwork , you can get the madiera and rich fruit cake in some exquiste designs including : Fairy castle, pirate ships , round, square and long versions and the colours and they will write anything ( well almost ) on the cakes for you , which is included in the price on special orders.
This christmas as my husband is a 'rich fruit man ' and my son and I are ' Madeira guys' we are having two very large cakes made for collection on the 21st December ( I'm decorating them both ) a bit pricey at a grand total of £63.00 for the two , but what the heck its christmas time guys and if we cant splodge out at christmas well when can we ................'splodge' being the word here as by the time we have eaten the huge things our waistlines will be the size of an elephants ............oooooooooooops slim fast here I come after crimbo time me thinks ............with big slices of M & S cake on the side........sssssssh, dont tell .
