Marmite Cereal Bars
Disadvantages: Just didn't taste right together !
While shopping at the weekend in Morrisons I literally got stopped in my tracks as I thought I had spied something on the shelves that looked familiar but couldn't possibly be!.
There it was a whole end aisle of black square boxes with that really familiar logo in yellow on the front......Yep it was MARMITE CEREAL BARS!. Well my first reaction was YUKKKK!!... even though I really love Marmite.
Being that they were on special offer for 99p instead £1.99 I really had to try these so I grabbed a box and flung it into my trolley, getting quite excited to hurry up and finish the shopping and get home so I could try one of these bars.
Now I decided to wait until I was feeling hungry so I could give these bars a fair chance of tasting what they really tasted like instead of just eating one for the sake of it.
You get 6 bars in the box which are quite striking to look at in their black wrapper with the simple Marmite logo on one side with bold writing across the front saying three different quotes "HATE BELLY GRUMBLES?", HATE MORNINGS?" & "HATE TO BE LATE" don't quite get what that is all about, I suppose it is trying to say grab one of these if in a hurry! Well the question is should you!!!!.
Feeling quite hungry I decided to give it a go, I tore across the top of the bar which ripped down the wrapper, to expose a oaty golden colour bar. There was a very slight hint of a smell of something, but straightaway you wouldn't have thought Marmite if you had not known that this is what it is.
I break a piece off and put it into my mouth, my first reaction was that it tasted weird, as you did get a faint taste of Marmite, but the oats were quite tasty and after a second piece there definitely was a Marmitey taste, but it seemed wrong as my brain was thinking that " cereal bar= sweet taste" and not savoury. So by the time I had finished the bar my brain had come to terms with it being savoury and the only thing I can say is I personally don't think they go together well at all!.
I love Marmite, but have been really dissappointed recently when I have tried several different Marmite products, to find that they seem to be a bit afraid to give it a really good blast of Marmite. As if everyone knows you either Love it or Hate it, so if you buy a Marmite product you must love it, so why are they holding back on the Marmite taste are they trying to get a new market of people who may like just a hint of Marmite.
To date I've tried their breadsticks, cashew nuts, cheese ect... and I have the same opion on all of these and that is that they are too light handed with the Marmite. So Marmite people if you read this review a few more spoons of the stuff if you are going to call it MARMITE!!.
Each 25g bar contains;
~~~Calories 93 ~~~
~~~Sugars 1.3g ~~~
~~~Fat 2.0g ~~~
~~~Saturates 0.8g ~~~
~~~Salt 0.45g ~~~
Each bar is made up from Oats, Wheat and Rice, so for allergy sufferers beware as these do contain Wheat, Oats, Barley, Soya and Celery. May also contain nuts as well. These are high in fibre and rich in vitamin B with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.
My son is an avid Marmite eater and said the same as me that it just didn't marry well together. We still have four left in the box in the cupboard which is really unusual in this house as cereal bars usually fly out of the window here!!
My last word on these are that on the front of the box it has written " Lots of lovely chewy oats, wheat and rice all wrapped up with a hefty punch of Marmite " well if that is your punch I'll take you on any day in a fight!!!
More like a flick!!! .......sorry but I can only give it 2 stars and this is because the rest of the ingredients seemed of good quality and tasty.
Should have gone with my first reaction YUK!!!!
Summary: I wouldn't recommend to anyone!
