Advantages: marmite taste, tastes nice, well designed packaging, low in fat, ideal in a rush

Disadvantages: needs more marmite taste for the hardcore marmite fans!

Marmite cereal bars....i love it and i hate it!!

While cruising down the isles at the local morrisons a slim black box caught my eye, being easily attracted by black and shiny things i had to take a closer look. As i got closer the bright yellow logo that is traditional to all marmite products became clear.... marmite cereal bars......not something you would have thought would go together! But the special offer of just 99p for a box of six was a bargain and it was worth a try.

What you get in the box is 6 cereal bars made of chewy oats, wheat and rice wrapped in the flavour of marmite, needless to say these are not suitable for people with allergies to wheat, oats, barley and also celery and soya. Each bar is 25g.

Whats in it ?

Well the cereal bars are rich in b vitamins as usual to marmite. The bars also boast about being high in fibre,no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and have only 93 calories in a bar. Well sounds pretty healthy doesnt it?!

There is also :
Protein - 4.6g
Carbohydrate - 14.0 (of which sugars) 1.3g
Fat - 2.o g (of which saturates) 0.8g
Fibre - 1.5g
Salt - 0.45g

So overall as far as snacks go these seem to be pretty healthy but what about the taste?

Opinion :As you open the little black packet (which is just the same design as the box) you are greeted by a golden cereal bar. The mild marmite colour giving the cereal a nice glaze. Unfortunately there doesnt seem to be any smell to these bars but what it is lacking in smell it makes up with that first bite. I am at the moment a big marmite eater but I do not like my toast smothered in the stuff. The first bite is to be savoured as this seems to be the nicest. This is the only kick of marmite you will get as once the initial kick has gone every mouthful after that seems a little bland. The taste is nice but the marmite is more of a subtle undertone than the hefty punch of marmite that is claimed on the box. Maybe this has been done to make you want more, or purely because as marmite so often say," you either love it or hate it " and they were worried about offending. If you are a newbie to marmite then this is an ideal product to try as the taste is just subtle but to those of us who are keen marmite eaters i feel that it could do with a bit more marmite to give us that marmite fix on the go!

All said and done though, it is a cereal bar, it's meant as a snack and not meant to replace your morning toast so if you are out and about its handy to have and leaves you with a nice taste in your mouth. It isnt too bad, the taste is nice but more marmite please!!

Summary: a nice cereal bar that is quite healthy and leaves a nice taste in your mouth.
