“ Brand: Maryland / Type: Biscuits „
My children love biscuits but we do not keep many in the house or they would eat them at every opportunity. I must say I have quite a weakness for sweet things too. However whilst shopping and feeling like generous mummy I decided to buy some chocolate chip cookies so headed for the biscuit aisle.
I tend to find that own-brand cookies are perfectly acceptable and that was what I was intending on buying. However the Maryland Cookies were on BOGOF so this made them cheaper per pack so I decided to indulge in two packets. I spotted the 25% less fat and decided they would be worth a try, the packaging was mainly red foil like the ordinary ones.
After putting the shopping away I settled down with a nice cup of tea and a couple of the cookies. They looked just like the ordinary ones, they were about an inch and a half in diameter and quite chunky. There was a very promising sprinkling of chocolate chips as well. They had a lovely crunch when I bit into them but were not at all dry. The flavour was rich and there was quite a strong chocolate taste as well. I tried dunking one in my tea and it held together well and tasted delicious. The two cookies certainly did not last me long at all!
I knew the nutritional information wouldn't make for great reading but I did have a peek. Each cookie is contains:
There is also a warning about possible traces of nuts.
If I had to do a taste test against the ordinary cookies I really don't think I would be able to tell the difference. A 25% reduction in fat is obviously not much but it all helps! I would certainly buy these again and the children loved them too.
