Mc Vities Jaffa Cakes
Advantages: Taste superior to the stores own brands
Disadvantages: very expensive for what they are
Our family just love Jaffa cakes and the original ones from McVities are the best you can buy. They are a lot dearer to buy than the shops own brands but they definitely taste better.
The McVities Jaffa cakes come in a box which feels quite strong and inside the cakes are wrapped in a cellophane wrapper to keep them nice and fresh. The box stops the cakes getting squashed so the chocolate is still nicely intact when you open the pack up.
The chocolate on top has a nice taste to it which actually tastes like proper chocolate, not like the cheaper versions and it doesn't crumble off the top and go all down your front when biting into it like the cheaper versions either. The orange jelly inside is a lot thicker and has a lovely orangey taste to it. The cake part is always nice and moist and tastes like proper cake.
The good thing about these cakes is that they are low in calories, they are just 46 calories per cake which is quite good for a nice sweet treat. The bad thing is that it is so hard to eat just one or two if you have a normal size packet. You can easily just keep munching on them until the pack is all gone as they are so light to eat, they practically melt in the mouth so you don't feel like you are eating a lot. If you are dieting then its a much better practice to buy the snack packs and just take one pack at a time so the temptation stays in the cupboard.
As for the traffic light labeling, the fat content is yellow (1g per cake), sat fat is also yellow (0.5g per cake), sugar is red (6.4g per cake) and salt is green (<0.1g per cake).
To buy a box of these at the moment you are looking at approximately £1.19 for a pack of 12 which is quite expensive. I would give these 5 stars if it wasn't for the price as they are by far superior in quality and taste but the price stops me buying them unless they are on special offer.
