Advantages: Great taste
Disadvantages: High in saturates
Walking round the supermarket yesterday I suddenly got an attack of the munchies and spotted a multipack of McVitie's original Mini Cheddars, 7 handy little 25g packets were right there staring at me begging me to pick them up. I have fond memories of Mini Cheddars, eating them with a nice cold lager in the beer garden of our local pub in the summer years ago, I had quite forgotten about them and just couldn't resist picking them up and opening a bag straightaway (hush I did pay for them when I got to the till), and did find an assistant to say I was eating a packet and would pay on the way out which she said was ok.
Mini cheddars are a small savoury biscuits that lives up to its name, they do indeed have a strong cheddar cheese taste and when freshly opened are nice, firm and a little crispy rather like the texture of a cracker. They are quite solid and filling but the little 25g packets that come in the multipack was not enough and I had already scoffed 2 packets before I got to the till.
In 2006 McVitie's as part of a healthier format launch reduced its saturated fat by 30% on its mini cheddars but it still has a whopping 3.0g of saturates which is a substantial amount for a little bag, however I did not notice a change in the quality of the taste because of this they are still the tasty cheesy little biscuits that I remember from years ago.
I noticed other flavours in the mini cheddar range, I found cheese and onion, and extra mature cheddar flavour but I have yet to try these.
Mini Cheddar original 25g bags contain 129 calories, 7.5g fat, and 3.0g of saturates and are currently £1.40 for 7 x 25g in Sainsbury.
Summary: Great snack
