Mc Vities Mini Cheddars
Advantages: Taste great, Not greasy, Baked
Disadvantages: Lots of calories.
The mini cheddars come in a plastic foil bag which is orange and yellow in colour and this can't be mistaken for another type of snack/bag of crisps due to the well known colours that Mini Cheddars use on their packaging. The front of the bag is plain and just gives you some information about the product and states that the product is baked with no artificial colours or flavours. It also states that they are made form real cheese. On the back of the packet you can find a list of ingredients and nutritional information. The mini cheddars are actually made by Mcvities who make a large range of biscuits and other snacks. From what I remember mini cheddars have been about for a long time and they also have different flavours available to buy in some stores. When I was much younger I remember the ham and the marmite flavoured mini cheddars but unfortunately these were stopped being made and are no longer available to buy. The reason I chose these was because I fancied a savoury snack at work rather than something sweet and these seemed a lot healthier than other crisps, as mini cheddars are baked. For a 50g bag of mini cheddars it cost me approximately 70p from my local Co-Op store which I think is rather pricey. For a pack of 7 x 25g bags it will currently cost you just £1.00 from Tesco & Sainsburys, how-ever this offer is only valid until 3rd July 2012.
When I opened the bag I could smell a lovely, light cheesey smell. The bag was sonly half full with mini cheddars so the large foil bag is a bit of a waste as they could have used a much smaller bag. The mini cheddars are round in shape and are a bit bigger than 2p coin. They are a golden yellow colour and have dots all over them. Some of the mini cheddars are much browner on the edge than others. I put one into my mouth to taste it. The mini cheddar was quite smooth against my tongue. As I bit into it the mini cheddar broke into 2 pieces. It's very crispy when biting into it and when you start to chew the mini cheddar it releases a lovely cheesy taste in your mouth with is just delicious. The mini cheddars do make you very thirsty as they are dry and very cheesey.
I found the mini cheddars to be very satisfying and was a delicious savoury snack for when I'm at work or on the go. I did have to drink a fair bit of water after eating a few as they do dry your mouth out a little. As they are baked they didn't feel greasy when taking them out of the bag and I wasn't left with very greasy fingers. I did find that they did stick to my teeth a little; how-ever this was soon gone after swigging some water around my mouth or chewing some gum. I would also try the other flavoured mini cheddars in the range as I think they are brilliant quality and taste delicious. In terms of value I do think that for a 50g they are a little over-priced and would expect them to cost no more than about 65p. I would buy these again as they did taste delicious and I would recommend them to others. The only downside is that they contain a lot of calories!
