Advantages: Thick ridge cut crisps that have a nice crunch to them
Disadvantages: This particular flavour is too intense!
During my lunch break earlier today I was perusing the shelves looking for a tasty snack. I wanted something to compliment my sandwich and was in the mood for crisps. The McCoy's caught my eye. I must say that the packet looked a little tacky and garish with the shiny gold bits. It looked like it had been designed by Mr T. But I guess it done the job as it did attract my attention. The packet states in big bold letters that these are MAN CRISPS. It reminds me of a certain chocolate bar with the slogan 'It's not for girls' Well I laugh and blow a metaphorical raspberry at these claims! I am not a man, yet I have triumphantly polished off many of those delicious chocolate bars, and consumed copious quantities of McCoy's Cheddar and Onion flavour crisps too! I quite like those. But I thought I'd mix it up a bit and choose a different flavour today, and so picked up a bag of Salt and Malt Vinegar.
I felt quite smug as I sat down to lunch. Man crisps, pfft! I'll show these crisps who's boss....
....Those crisps really showed me who's boss! I didn't have a very pleasant lunch time.
On opening the packet the strong smell of salt and malt vinegar wafted up my nose, and immediately made my mouth start to water. I knew the taste was going to be intense and braced myself. The acidic taste of these crisps induced an episode of gurning that made my jaw hurt. I was aware of the fact that I looked ridiculous, but my friend seemed to find it highly amusing. i didn't like them at all but I soldiered on for a while. The malt vinegar flavour overpowered the saltiness, but I think it is safe to say that both were present in substantial volumes! I have tasted other branded salt and malt vinegar crisps before, and I was expecting the saltiness and the acidity, but not quite to that extent. It totally ruined the sandwich because I couldn't taste anything but those crisps. It felt like they had burned my taste buds.
After consuming half of the packet I was so thirsty I felt the need to throw a bottle of water down my throat. It occurred to me then, that these crisps would probably make a good bar snack. They would encourage customers to purchase more beverages to quench their thirst after the evil crisps had left them feeling totally dehydrated!
It wasn't all bad though. These McCoy's are quite a thick and crunchy crisp. Although there doesn't look like there are many crisps in the bag, they are more filling than you think, probably because of the thickness. They are also a ridge cut potato chip, and I believe that these ridges hold more flavour. You certainly couldn't say these crisps lack flavour!
Other people may enjoy these crisps, but personally, I'm going to avoid them forever more! I think I'll stick to the Cheddar and Onion McCoy's in future, as they do not make my mouth feel like it's on fire after eating them.
Summary: These crisps ruined my lunch! Boo hoo!
