“ Brand: Mc Vitie's / Type: Biscuit „
The original Milk Chocolate Digestives are brilliant, better than the original. They follow the same high standards of quality usually seen from McVitie's. The combination of superb taste, texture and great value for money makes these a great packet of biscuits. However, they are very unhealthy and are often harder to find than the original biscuits.
The packaging is very simple, but bright making it easy to recognise on the shelf. The text is bold and crisp, so you can read it easily. The product is always fresh, but the thin plastic means that the biscuits can be broken and will fall all over the fall when opened, which can be very annoying. The packet can be opened easily, but you need another container to keep them crisp, as they don't last long out in the open.
The product is very high quality, with thick chocolate and a nice generous layer of real butterscotch, better than alternative products. All of this makes the higher price worth it.
The price is more expensive than alternative products, but the higher quality and the sheer greatness of the biscuit makes it worth it.
When you open the packet, you can smell the sweet, rich butterscotch almost straight away. Combined with the delicious look of the product, you will want to pop one into your mouth. When you start to eat one, the silky smooth milk chocolate will start to melt. This leaves the thick butterscotch to combine with the biscuit. It isn't too over powering, and the two textures work together very well. The match os flavours is perfect, with the butterscotch rich, but not commanding so you still get the trademark
However, the product is very unhealthy, with lots of calories and fat. It is also very hard to find, which is bad as they are very nice.
Overall, a superb packet of biscuits, some of the best available. They have a great combination of flavours and textures. They are great value for money, with lots of biscuits to go around and they are very filling so they last along time. Almost everyone will love them.
My daughter knows I like a nice chocolate biscuit with a cup of tea so when she saw a pack of McVities Butterscotch Chocolate Digestives she picked some up for me to sample as she had never seen them before, and neither had I.
I love the Caramel Digestives because the thin layer of caramel in between the biscuit and chocolate changes the biscuit completely and makes it feel really different even if the taste does not alter very much. I was curious as to how McVities were going to perform with these Butterscotch ones as I think butterscotch is a very hard flavour to incorporate into mass manufactured food items.
As soon as I opened the packet of Butterscotch Digestives I was overwhelmed with a rich smell of sweet butterscotch which mingled with the tasty smell of the chocolate.
I didn't even wait for the kettle to boil, let alone make a cup of tea and sit all civilised with my tea and biscuits. No, I leaned like a slob on the kitchen worktop and munched a biscuit not caring about the crumbs that were cascading down my clean white blouse.
These are delicious. I am tempted to stick my neck out and say they are the best chocolate digestives I have ever tasted, but I cannot decide if I like the McVities Dark Chocolate Digestives more or less than these! If not the best, then certainly these are the second best!
I was a little disappointed at first that there had not been a layer of butterscotch as I love this part of the caramel digestives so much, but then I quickly realised that the entire biscuit has been infused with a very authentic and realistic butterscotch flavour. Well, perhaps not the whole biscuit but I can't tell if it's the chocolate or the biscuit itself that has had the flavour added to it - even licking the chocolate off first and then eating the biscuit doesn't enlighten me!
The biscuit is nice and crumbly, just as a good digestive should be, and is sweetened to perfection with a texture that melts in my mouth before I start chewing. The digestive has a slightly different flavour to other McVities digestives, not because of the butterscotch flavouring but because it has a slightly burned taste which is very nice with the creamier flavour of the chocolate.
The chocolate I noticed is spread very thinly on this particular biscuit and I can only presume this is because any thicker and it would make for a very sickly sweet biscuit simply because the butterscotch adds its own brand of sweetness to an already very sweet range of biscuits. The milk chocolate is as lovely as I have tasted on a biscuit. It is creamy and rich tasting despite the fact there is not very much on there. It compliments the biscuit perfectly and melts beautifully when dipped into a nice hot cup of tea.
What I love about these chocolate digestives is that I can taste all three components of the biscuit even when munched together. I mean the taste of digestive, milk chocolate and butterscotch do not cancel each other out or blend together too much so I can enjoy a real variety of flavours in each and every mouthful.
I have found these digestives keep very well in my biscuit tin and after a week they still have the same texture as when the pack was first opened, unlike some other brands of chocolate biscuit which go dry and lose some of their flavour after a few days. Also, for you dunkers I can tell you these dunk very well and do not break up to leave a congealed lump of biscuit in the bottom of your mug - providing you do not hold them in the tea for too long!
Each Butterscotch Chocolate Digestive has about 80 calories and just under 4g of fat meaning they are not the healthiest biscuit around but when it comes to chocolate biscuits who cares, really? They cost £1.19 for a pack of the same size as ordinary chocolate digestives.
