Advantages: Yummy strawberry filling; Nice when warm
Disadvantages: Not very croissant tasting and a bit cakey
When I was in Tesco a couple of weeks ago I noticed a display of McVities croissants, I've never seen them before so think they must be new. You get 6 mini croissants in a bag for 50p, there is a choice of chocolate or strawberry inside and I brought a bag of each because 50p is mega cheap for this sort of thing even though the croissants are only small.
You can eat them straight out of the bag or warm them up in the oven for 5 mins, I've tried these strawberry ones both ways and think they're deffo better warm and even if you leave them to go cold again they taste better than coming straight out of the packet.
If these wasn't croissant shape I don't think I'd have know they was croissants because the texture isn't very flakey and the inside of the croissant is quite spongey like cake. There's not all that much filling inside the croissants but they're not very big so the little bit of strawberry filling does taste a lot stronger than you think it's going to.
I love the taste of the filling, it's like a cross between strawberry jam and puree, it's smooth and mega sweet but has got a delish strawberry flavour that stands out big time next to the faint tasting croissant. Actually I think the croissant is a bit sweet tasting, it's yummy but like I said before it's more like eating a cake than a croissant because of the sweetness of it and the way it doesn't flake. It goes nice and soft in the oven and that is yummy because it's a much nicer texture than if you just took one out of the bag and munched it cold.
Yesterday I put one in my sisters lunch box before school and she loved it.... that says it all actually about these because she doesn't LIKE croissants and didn't realise that was what it was even though it was kind of croissant shaped. She said she loved the jam in the middle because it was like the fruit stuff in a Muller corner yogurt and she's right about that.
Recommended..... a yummy snack that isn't all that much like a croissant but is still madly tasty.
Summary: A Nice Snack But I Will Still Buy Proper Croissants
