Advantages: Taste great.

Disadvantages: You can't help but eat more and they contain 6.2g fat per biscuit!

I have an incurable sweet tooth and on a recent trip to the supermarket I saw these McVities Boasters biscuits begging me to take them home. McVities have a website called their VIP club and you can earn points for buying McVities products. You can then use these points to enter competitions or to get special McVities merchandise. I am a member of the VIP club so this was also an added incentive to buy the biscuits.

First of all you should know that Boasters are shortbread cookie biscuits packed with Belgian chocolate chunks. You get eight of these cookies in a pack and they come stacked in a plastic holder surrounded by a wrapper. The case is a great packaging design as it means they are less likely to break as you carry them home from the shops. The outer wrap has an easy to read nutritional value chart on the front which lets you see the calorific values per biscuit. This is really handy as it means you can read it before you buy. There is also a more comprehensive nutritional value chart on the underside of the wrapper. Full ingredients are also listed as well as contact information for the manufacturing brand.

Per biscuit these contain 115 calories and 6.2 grams of fat. They also contain 1.2 grams of protein and 0.7 grams of fibre. They are made with wheat flour and also contain soya, milk, egg and gluten. They are marked as suitable for vegetarians.

Each cookie is approximately 6 1/2 centimetres in diameter and about 1 centimetre deep. On most of the cookies in my pack there is not an inch of cookie surface that isn't filled with a chunky chocolate chip. The surface of the cookie has little peaks and nobbles and the milky brown chocolate chips poke out and look succulent and soft.

The shortbread has a sweet vanilla and cream flavour and the texture is powdery at first until it begins to melt in your mouth, turning into a smooth biscuity paste. The shortbread is not too dry but has an initial crunch that is interesting. The chocolate chips are delicious and of a high quality chocolate. They soften in the mouth instantly so you feel a melting sensation as you chew. The combination of shortbread and chocolate is absolutely lovely.

These biscuits are unfortunately very moreish so if you have any hope of controlling yourself or dieting then forget it. The whole packet vanished in two days at my house! I would certainly buy these again as they are perfect for nibbling on throughout the day or they go well with a hot beverage or a teatime snack.

My only problem was the packaging - I accidentally tore the top of the wrapper after a few times of sliding the plastic tray out. Once torn the biscuits started to become slightly softer than they should have been so I advise possibly keeping them in an airtight container.
