McVities Digestive Light

Disadvantages: flavour is more subdued, not as satisfying
MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MCVITIE'S DIGESTIVES
I absolutely adore McVitie's digestives. The dark chocolate ones are a devilish treat for me, but the normal ones are also very very yummy - they're kind of nutty and crunchy, with a tinge of sweetness, just perfect to have with a cup of tea or to dunk in some milk. Sadly for me, because digestives are so good, I usually can't stop at having just a few, so these become very calorically costly for me!!
NOW TO THE LIGHT DIGESTIVES
These light digestives come in a similar McVite's packing, with the familiar red covering most of the packet. But the dark blue portion is now replaced by light blue, making it easily recognisable from the normal Digestives. The biscuit itself look quite similar the normal ones, but perhaps just slightly lighter in shade (maybe it's just my eyes). McVites claim that these have the "McVite's taste with the 30% less fat" - I can definitely agree with the last half of the statement but sadly not the first.
Let's look at the nutrition first.
Each biscuit has about 70 calories, 10.8 g of carbohydrates and 2.4 g of fat. Compare this to the normal ones - those have about the same amount of calories and carbohydrates, but 3 g of fat. Fat-check? Yes!
How about taste-wise? WELL, sadly, these don't taste the same as McVitie's digestives. Being lower in fat DOES mean a difference in taste. The biscuit itself is slightly drier, and the nutty flavour is more subdued. It also tastes less oily, which is perhaps the only thing about its flavour that I like!
RECOMMEND OR NOT?
Because this is not so tasty, I found it much easier to control my portion size! All in all, yes, I think it did help me achieve my aim of eating more healthily although I must admit that it is certainly much less flavoursome! I would definitely recommend this product as a partial substitute - from time to time I do go back to eating the normal ones (and even the dark chocolate ones) just to satisfy the cravings!
Summary: Would recommend as a partial substitute to the more unhealthy ranges of digestives!
