McVities Gold are crunchy biscuit bars with a unique gold coating. I have bought the McVities Gold bars for several years, and they are great when you are craving sugar! They are a great alternative to biscuits, as they are easy to transport, take in lunchboxes etc. As with all McVities products, they are high quality and contain no artificial colours or flavours, and no hydrogenated vegetable oil.
The bars come in a pack of 9, and each bar weighs 22g and is 7.5x3x1cm in size. The bars are individually wrapped, are yellow and have the word GOLD engraved on each bar. The inside of the bar is a crunchy biscuit, which is about half the depth of the bar. It then has a thick coating of caramel flavoured coating. The main ingredient of the coating is sugar and it is very sweet. They have small crunchy biscuit bits in the gold coating which are nice.
They are available in the large supermarkets, and Iceland, Lidl etc. The packs are usually priced at around £1.50-1.80, but are often on offer for £1 or 2 for £2. I bought mine for £1 in Iceland last week. The pack I purchased on 05/04/13 has a best before date of 09/11/13 but mine wont last that long!
I love these bars and have just eaten two while writing this! They are a delicious snack for those with a sweet tooth, but one at a time is probably best! Their nutritional content is 117kcal, 11.3g sugar, 5.9g fat, 4.7g saturates (which is 24% of an adults guideline daily amount!) and 0.1g salt per bar.
Overall I give them 4/5 stars, as they are very tasty but probably not that good for me!
