“ Brand: Morrisons / Type: Cake „
Banoffee Tart is one of my all time favourite deserts, whenever I go out for a meal I always check the sweet menu to see what there is, if there is a Banoffee I have to have it, the same applies to Chocolate Fudge Brownies...if they are both on the list....I find it very hard to choose!
As a regular shopper in Morrisons, I often find myself walking past the fresh cream chiller cabinet looking longingly at the yummy looking cream cakes, cheese cakes etc all sorts of delicious things. Normally I resist them but from time to time I do indulge myself. On one of these flights of indulgence I went for the Banoffee Tart. I had two options either two small tarts or one larger one. I went for the larger one...greedy but it was a rare treat....well, rareish...
When I got home, it didn't take long for me to open the tart, grab a spoon and start eating. Visually, the tart looked quite nice, the pastry case which contains the whole tart was a nice colour showing it had been well cooked, the top of the tart nicely covered in cream with hints of the banana showing through in the gaps, on top was a little sprinkled grated chocolate. I suppose it could have been a little more neatly prepare as it did look a little rushed but overall it was fine.
On to the eating... Plunging my spoon into the tart it went in nice and easily through the cream, met with slight resistance from the banana then went through the toffee easily and down to the pastry which was a little difficult to get through but it always is in such a tart really. the textures on the spoon felt good. Upong eating, I have to say it was quite nice, the cream was nice and creamy, unlike some I have had which have been very bland with the cream hardly tasting of anything. The banana was just about right, not under ripe and hard, not over ripe and too squishy. The toffee, a nice consistancy and quite flavoursome.the pastry also tasted nice. It was quite a pleasant experience and I have to say the tart didn't last very long!
The main thing I really like the way the banana and toffee flavours mix together to make a lovely rich, sweet creamy sticky mixture. This really contrasts nicely with the cream which cuts through the richness and clears your pallete for the next mouthful. From this point of view I was a little disappointed. I think the reason was the construction of the tart. My favourite Banoffee is my mums homemade one, for which she layers the banana and the toffee so they get nicely mixed together, with this tart there was a toffee layer then bananas placed on top and the cream on top of that. This meant the only mixing of the banana and toffee was as I was chewing, although this was quite nice, it was not as good as it could have been as the start of a mouth full didn't have a cohesive flavour, it felt like three separate flavours rather than a lovely combination.
Would I buy this again? If I wasn't going out for a meal anytime soon and I couldn't get my mum to make me one, I probably would, as I said it is actually quite nice. Not as good as home made but for a dessert in a hurry it's pretty good.
Morrisons Fresh Cream Banoffe Tarts (2 pack)
These things are soo tasty. Again, as most of the morrisons cakes are, these are made freshly in store.
The base is a pastry case and is shortcrust, quite thin with a zig zag kind of sides. The pasrty is a shell like base for the banoffe tart itself.
On top of these pastry is thick creamy custard which is piped onto the base and then sliced bananas are added on top. They then cover this in smooth loose toffe sauce and then cover with a circle of piped whipped cream.
To finish there is a sprinkle of chocolate. YUM YUM.
These tarts cost around 1.20 for 2 but are really really nice. They come in a clear plastic container and have no nutritional information on the packaging, so I cannot commenton on the calorie content.
Really tasty and unique.
Well worth a try- give it a go!! xx
