Morrisons Value Garlic Baguette
Advantages: Cheap, looks nice when cooked
Disadvantages: Needs more butter and garlic
Every month I tend to do my grocery shop online with Tesco. This is for items that I classify as being abit bulky and difficult to walk with, or I simply need a lot of stuff and it makes more sense for it to be delivered to my door. In between the delivery, I tend to drop into Asda to do top up shops or on rare occasions I will nip to Sainsburys. Morrisons is no where near where I live, but I was in an area that had a store and discovering the night before there was not much to feed the family on I thought it would make a convenient change to pick up afew bits as I was passing. This item was thrown in the basket, costing 32p.
Why did I buy it?
Everyone in my family love garlic bread, and it's a great accompaniment to so many dishes I tend to serve. Ive also had a revelation of sorts in regards to supermarkets own brand ' economy ' versions of garlic bread. In the past I wouldn't have dreamt of buying them, as Ive found previously if you buy really cheap bread you can really taste it and its not a patch on other versions where you spend abit extra. But after trying Tescos version I have been converted, and I wondered if Morrisons was in the same league.
How is it packaged?
The garlic bread is encased in a plastic wrapper. Mostly clear and see through, but partly covered by a white and green area with the ' M Savers ' logo on it but more noticeably a large green silhouette of some garlic bulbs. In the top right hand corner you have the price which is 32p, below that a brief summary of the nutritional information of a quarter of a baguette and it mentions this is suitable for vegetarians and is freezable.
On the back is the ingredients list, cooking instructions, allergy advice , nutritional information and how to store.

How did I find it?
When uncooked, I felt it looked quite pleasing to the eye and a decent yet standard size (length is 11 inches, width just over 2 inches and depth is just short of 2 inches.)
Appearance was very very light slightly brown. What you would expect if you saw something that needed to be cooked. You can see the herbs and butter smothered over the baguette. Quite afew scores at an angle so will ensure enough pieces to go around although on my eye the segments look a tad bit small per person. Smell of garlic is there but not overwhelming and pungent.
When cooked, the baguette is golden brown, crispy on the top and bottom and soft and slightly doughy in the middle. Taste wise, there wasn't really a hint of the herbs and the garlic wasn't strong enough although it did linger in the mouth afterwards.
Taste wise is needed to be stronger, fuller and was lacking flavour. I wanted to eat something that really packed a punch and it gave me a tickle.
Would I buy this again? No. Don't get me wrong-it's a decent garlic baguette. Good size, nice to look at and cheap, but needed much more flavour and to pack a bigger punch with the old garlic. Im not afraid of garlic and quite like it ( so do the kids ), so for me this should have made much more of an impact. As I was eating it with my meal ( turkey curry and wedges ), it got lost in the middle of it all and didn't stand out. Best thing to do if you wanted a good value garlic baguette, is buy another supermarket brand which is overall in better quality and tastes richer and more enjoyable.
Good price, didn't quite get it right.
Summary: Could be better
