Advantages: Cheap, tasty and very useful
Disadvantages: -------------
These muffins (the bread type, not the cake) are perfect to store in the freezer and defrost over night ready for breakfast in the morning. As a family of four we tend to buy several packs of the muffins so we always have some on stand-by.
One of the biggest advantages of these muffins is that they are relatively cheap- there is often a deal where you can by two packs of six for £1, making the muffins less than 10p each! Muffins are usually eaten at breakfast time or as a snack between lunch and a main evening meal. The great thing about these white muffins is that they have no distinctive sweet or savoury flavour so they taste really nice with both sweet and savoury toppings.
The muffins are quite doughy to begin with but after they've been toasted until they're just golden brown they are crispy on the outside and still slightly soft in the middle. They need to be cut in half to fit in the toaster and I like to spread butter on both sides as soon as they come out of the toaster and then have a savoury spread such as Marmite on one half and jam on the other.
These muffins are really good to have in your freezer because they're a bit more interesting than normal bread and they can even constitute a yummy meal if filled with more than just spreads. I like scrambled egg and mushrooms with salad leaves and a chutney of some sort-delicious!
Summary: A really good cupboard stand-by
