Advantages: Most tasty cakes ever
Disadvantages: Go stale much too quickly when they are opened
I am dangerous around a box of Mr Kipling Victoria Mini Classics. They only have to be opened and I will have scoffed them all within a day, which is obviously not good for a late-twenties girly who suddenly has to mind what she's eating or starts to spread a little in the middle.
I think most of us as familiar with Mr Kipling. My granny used to buy French Fancies (Buuurggh) for Sunday tea, my mum always had a box of cherry bakewells somewhere in the cupboard, but I did not really spend too much time in the cakes and biscuits section of the supermarket so I had never bought any Mr Kipling products for my own home, but that changed when at christmas I knew we had guests coming around so I needed to have some cakes in, that would have a fairly long date before they expired, and as Mr Kipling was £1 in Asda for all of the range, I purchased a few different boxes.
Christmas came and went, and I can't even remember who ate the cakes in the end, but I know one thing, I got hooked. I ate two of the mini victoria's that evening. And the following week I couldn't resist putting another box of them into the shopping trolley. Since christmas they have become a regular item in my cupboards. Everyone likes them, especially me and our three year old!
What you get when you open the box is six individual buns/cakes, which have a small amount of buttercream and raspberry jam inside. The cake itself is delicious, just exactly moist enough, so light and then the buttercream is the perfect sweetness. If ever a bun was 'moreish' then this definitely is! The only problem I have had with them is that they are just too easy to eat! One is never enough.
The children love these with some warm custard poured over the top, but I prefer mine on its own where I can savour it for a moment or two. My hubby will take his either way, but he prefers Mr Kipling's angel slices so I keep a box of them in the cupboard too.
Now, I do have one complaint. When you open the box and take the pastic off the tray, even when you reseal the tray up with Cling Film, the buns will go slightly hard much too quickly for my liking... but then that's a good reason to gobble them up all the quicker! Pricewise you are looking at around £1 a box when they are on special offer, and then up to £1.50 a box in more expensive shops.
I'd give them 5/5 for the taste. Simply delicious. Buy a little packet for your visitors, they will definitely thank you for it.
