* This review specifically relates to the Pecan Pie bar.
Over the last few months I have started eating quite a lot of snack bars to fill me up as I was eating far too much fruit and worried about how much natural sugar I was over consuming. After starting with the more well-known ones in the supermarket, I started to get a little bit more adventurous and look elsewhere online. I've now tried so many brands I can't even remember, but one that stands out for me is the Nakd range.
Originally trying the Nakd range, I was impressed by the range of flavours they had on offer and so I opted for a 'Find your Favourite' box. The box contained 9 bars, each a different flavour for £7.99. At 89 pence each, they are expensive in comparison to other more well-known brands, but if you consider how much you would spend on say a chocolate bar, then this is an average price and much much healthier.
The main selling point of these bars is they are Gluten, Wheat and Dairy free. While I don't have any intolerances myself, I was happy with the natural benefits that this bar had to offer me and the fact that it is low in saturated fats and GM free made me a happy bunny.
As snack bars go, it gave me a much needed boost during the late afternoon lull which I often seem to find myself in. After running around all day I'm sure I don't eat enough, but often find that if I'm in the car I need something to nibble on, so these bars are handy to keep in the glovebox or in my handbag to tide me over. I couldn't solely survive on them and they don't 'fill' you up, but they do sufficiently boost you to your next meal, without gorging on sugary sweets / crisps, etc.
The Pecan Pie flavour isn't one of my favourites, but this is solely because the range of flavours is so nice, with the Cocoa Orange and Cashew Cookie being particular favourites. The small 35 gram bar offers 156 calories per serving, and with 100% natural ingredients isn't sticky or gooey like some other snack bars I have tried previously. The nutty taste and texture make it tasty without being over powering, however the dates just don't do it for me I'm afraid. I would have preferred it just to have been made with the almonds and pecans.
I would recommend these bars to everyone, but you simply have to find the right flavour for you. As a nutritious and healthy snack, they are brilliant for people who have intolerances to Gluten, Wheat and Dairy. They are made with the right amount of essential vitamins so they support a strong immune system, combat stress and even ageing! The high amount of fibre means blood sugar levels are balanced, it helps to control appetitie and aid digestion! Who would have thought one little bar could do so much?!
After initially seeing them online, I have noticed them for sale in high street chains such as Holland & Barrett, Tesco (only the larger stores) and Waitrose.
** If you try this range, look out for the lemon infused raisins, they are delicious!!
