As a teacher I often seek out good food to pack in my lunchbox, either as a snack or as part of my lunch. I have a keen interest in fitness so this tends to impact my decisions as well - I prefer more natural foods that contain fewer added sugars and other additives.
I've tried a few of the Nature Valley brand foods and generally found them to be high quality and tasty.
I settled upon a box of the Oats n' Honey bars as they seemed convenient and they were on offer at the time. Inside the box they are individually wrapped which made them ideal to chuck in my lunchbox or school bag without concerns over breaking up or crumbling anywhere.
The individual package contains two of the bars, which are quite thin and brittle. They have a light brown appearance though I have noticed that sometimes (I imagine during the cooking process) they have burned slightly or cooked longer and they are a darker brown colour. This didn't affect the taste, which has always been excellent - much like a more solid flapjack, in which you can certainly taste the honey.
Part of the attraction for me is the oats which are a fantastic natural way to give the body some long lasting energy and these bars don't disappoint. However, they do tend to be rather high in sugar content which doesn't always work well with my healthy eating/diet.
Another smaller issue for me is the cost - unless on offer they're not cheap and there are other alternatives or supermarkets own brands that are very tempting. However if you can pick them up with some vouchers or on a deal, they are well worth it.
Nature Valley bars are available at all large supermarkets and are also now stocked at many smaller stores.
Nutritionally good and a healthier alternative to a chocolate bar - Nature Valley bars will provide kids and adults alike with a good source of energy. Just be wary of the sugar and keep an eye out for deals.
