I'm not sure how these ended up in our cupboard last night. There is only one person who buys the cakes/biscuits, and that is me. However it would have been rude not to have one, so I duly obliged.
These biscuits are made by Nestle and have been since I was born back in 1970. I remember having them as a boy, and the wrapper has changed little since then, and looks very similar to the one pictured here.
On the occasions I have bought these biscuits, I have always paid £1.00 from Tesco, not their RRP of £1.39. For this price I am awarded with 9 individually wrapped biscuits. You can also get packs of 18.
Upon opening one of the wrappers I am met with a nice rectangular shaped biscuit, covered in Nestle Milk Chocolate. They are quite hard to the touch and upon biting or breaking them, you will hear a large snap.
This is the hard digestive biscuit in the middle.
On the wrapper of each bar, it boasts that there are only 99 calories, so I know these aren't too unhealthy for me. The carbohydrates are 12g however and I can add another 5g of fat on this also. So not a totally healthy snack either.
Milk Chocolate (52%), (Sugar, Dried whole milk, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Whey Powder, Vegetable Fat, Emulsifiers (Soya Lecithin E476), Butter Fat Flavouring). Wholemeal flour (26%) Vegetable Fat, Sugar, Whole oatflour (2.5%), Invert sugar syrup, Barley malt extract, Dried coconut, Raising agents (Ammonium Bicarbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Salt.
Taste wise I found the chocolate very creamy and milky. It had a nice sweet taste. I actually enjoyed biting the chocolate off separately and then devouring the digestive biscuit. A bit messy doing it this way though.
The digestive is quite hard to bite into, but made in a way that it makes the biscuit quite crunchy. The taste of the digestive is nice too. It was quite a more (ish) biscuit though, and I did have to go back for another.
Overall, I would highly recommend Breakaway. It isn't a biscuit that will 'blow you away' but it will fill a hunger gap, and any craving for chocolate. Ideal for childrens packed lunches too (which is why I'm informed Mrs Stebiz got them in the beginning):-)
