“ Brand: Nestle / Type: Cake „
I brought a pack of these Rolo Doughnuts last week because I spotted them in Tesco and thought they looked delish. You get 4 in a pack for £1.50, they're ring doughnuts but looked loads more exciting than other ring doughnuts because the pack shows that they've got caramel going through the doughnut.
They're a bit disappointing when you get into one though. It's a plain white doughnut with a thin layer of caramel going through it, then on the top there is chocolate and tiny chocolate curls. It sounds wicked I know but to me the doughnuts don't taste much like Rolos at all!!!
It's the caramel that's the problem because it doesn't taste the same as the caramel in a Rolo, then once your taste buds have got used to the sweet sugary flavour of the caramel you get a stodgy dry tasteless doughnut to chew your way through. If the caramel was thicker in them I reckon they'd taste loads better but thinking about it the chocolate is naff too so there probably wouldn't be much difference! lol
It's not that I didn't like the doughnuts but I was disappointed that they didn't taste much like Rolos because I thought that was the whole point of them! The chocolate on the top of the doughnuts doesn't taste like real chocolate at all and I wasn't mad keen on the fake taste of it, it doesn't even seem to taste chocolatey and I wasn't mad keen on how half of the chocolate curls dropped off onto my jumper whenever I had a bite.
These aren't sickly at all and I'm not surprised because there's not that much taste about it, like I said the doughnut itself is madly bland and hasn't got a lot of taste so it's a shame that the caramel isn't a bit thicker because that would deffo give them a more interesting flavour.
My sister loves them, she's 10 and I was shocked actually because she doesn't usually go for doughnuts but I reckon that shows how much they appeal to kids but not much to older people. They're just boring I think and there are deffo better doughnuts available.... just don't go for the very simlar Smarties doughnuts because they're proper naff too.
Not recommended... boring and don't taste like Rolos!
Nestle Rolo Donuts are currently on offer in Tesco as you can get a packet of four for a pound which is fifty eight pence less than the normal retial price. They come in a clear plastic container with a cardboard band around the plastic with the rolo name across it.
They are a ring donut and they are a decent enough size, the visible lower half of the donut is a golden brown and the top half is covered in milk chocolate with chocolate sprinkles on top of this to give it a nobbly knarled effect. They are well presented and look nice.
Unfortunately they do not taste all that nice, in fact they are raher bland and the only thing that makes them nice is the fact that there is an inner bit of smooth caramel toffee on the inside however this is not throughout the ring but in a couple of small deposits so these bites have a nice creamy sweet taste to them while the rest of the donut is a bit bland as the chocolate is nothing special and has that artificial taste you get with some milk chocolate.
The donut itself is a little stodgy and has an almost stale feel to it so these are one product I will not be buying again.
NESTLE ROLO DOUGHNUTS: If you love anyone enough ...
I am a big fan of mini doughnuts and often finish 10 at one go...I did purchase this rolo doughnuts few months back and since then started loving it...
The plastic box containing doughnuts are nothing very special but the packaging is really elegant! You can just flip a side the paper case on the top and open the box to taste these.
You can see visible flakes on the top of the doughnuts generating an interest to consume all four of them at once. The taste is really good as you can feel the blend of unsullied bread along with chocolaty flavour. The doughnuts are quite thick and filling. I always enjoy the chocolate flakes melting on my mouth as I try to chew it.
You can feel the delicious toffee sauce filling although it is not quite overpowering in nature as compared to the chocolate flake topping. However I always like the same consistency in the doughnuts so this impresses me a lot.
I could find all regular ingredients like wheat flour, coco powder, lactose and emulsifier in the list and 11.5 % icing was also OK for me as I have seen sugary doughnuts umpteen times.
You can always find these in deals in Sainsbury's and Tesco at good price range around £1.
