New York Bakery Company Cinnamon and Raisin Bagels
Advantages: nicely filling, wih a lovely flavour
Disadvantages: a bit stodgy
New York Bakery bagels are a perennial favourite in our house. Where crumpets & teacakes have fallen by the wayside, these bagels are still a winner.
The cinnamon & raisin is the best flavour for me. When you open the packet the wonderful smell is a lot like hot cross buns & the taste is quite similar too but of course the bagels are much denser, with a satisfying chewy texture.
Best toasted to slightly crisp the outside,with plenty of butter, the flavour is slightly sweet & the juicy raisins are marvellous for counteracting the dryness - though there aren't too many, which is what makes them so popular round our way.
New York Bakery bagels really dominate the market & of the few others I've tried, the Food Doctor ones were too hardcore & supermarket Own Brand just generally not as nice.
In fact it was only last week when I had a fresh bagel at a local cafe & it was ten times nicer than the New York ones - toasty on the outside with a light & fluffy middle yet still substantial & filling - that I realised that New York bagels are actually very stodgy, & bagels can be a great deal nicer. I felt a bit sad that my favourite breakfast isn't quite as good as I thought, but still definitely the best I've found in the supermarkets.
Summary: a really tasty, substantial breakfast
