Advantages: wholesome, natural ingredients

Disadvantages: Very more-ish! plastic packets aren't that environmentally friendly

I spotted these in Morrisons the other day and made a beeline for them for 2 reasons:
- I much prefer things containing olive oil to the ever present palm oil
- I'm trying to avoid wheat as I don't seem to tolerate it very well

On further scrutiny, the ingredients list read well: oatmeal, olive oil(9%), salt. No additives of any sort, always a plus point in my book.....

Various other claims are made for them - high in fibre, whole grain, suitable for vegetarians, 100% wheat free, low in sugar, non-GM recipe, free from hydrogenated fats and orang-utan friendly!! (In case you are wondering, their habitat is being destroyed to create palm oil plantations ). It does state that they may contain traces of nuts.

Nutrition info, Per oatcake:

Right, so that's all the blurb off the packet, but what are they actually like????

They come in a red and white cardboard box made from 95% recycled board. The box contains 300g or oatcakes packed in 4 sealed plastic packets, 6 oatcakes in each. I guess the plastic packets aren't exactly environmentally friendly but they do keep the remainder of the packet fresh until you need it. I can't remember what I paid for them, but they are being advertised in various places between £1.09 and £1.45.

The oatcakes have quite a nice crunchy texture when you bite them, and a slightly nutty sort of oaty flavour. I really liked them - most of the oatcakes I have tried previously have been acceptable but not something I would rush to repeat-buy on taste grounds. These are SCRUMMY - I shall definitely be buying more! They go really well with cheese on them, haven't experimented any further than that yet.......

Oats are reckoned to be a good source of soluble fibre and can benefit cholesterol levels, I believe. Olive oil seems to be in favour with most people as a good fat. The only issue might be the quantity of salt if you are trying to limit your salt intake.......... Other than that, if you like savoury biscuits, I would recommend giving these a try.

Summary: These taste ridiculously good for something that is likely to be good for you :-))
