      Very helpful

Good flavour, texture & quality although slightly greasy.

Real Crisps - strong cheese & onion flavour are a hand cooked potato crisp snack manufactured by Sirhowy Valley Foods Ltd. The brand name is "Real". I think it trys to convey that the crisps are proper real potato with a lot of care taken in hand cooking them.

These crisps seem to be cropping up all over the place as of late. Its not a huge brand in my opinion compared to Walkers but they seem to be expanding at quite a rapid rate and can be found in quite a number of shops and supermarkets. A normal 35g bag will set you back from anywhere between 50p - £1 depending on where you buy them. I notice they sell them in Motoway service stations for about a quid so probably not the best place to first try them!
Real claim on the packet that they pick out the best potatoes and hand cook them to keep the goodness in. They also offer a guarentee on the packet where by if the crisps dont reach you in perfect condition you can send them off to their consumer services department and claim a refund ( would it really be worth the effort?).
These crisps come in a standard packet however the packet seems to be somewhat thicker than your usual Walkers bag. It seems to be kind of reinforced as it has a more solid texture rather than a proper rustly, flimsy one like the Walkers bags. It has a thick green matte coat of some kind and seems pretty well packaged. The bag has a silver foil interior to preserve the freshness.

As soon as you pick one of these crisps up you can tell they are hand baked. They seem alot more solid and sturdier than your normal crisp. A bad point to note is that these crisps appear to be quite greasy. As soon as you touch them you can feel like a greasy residue.
The moment you put one of these crisps in your mouth the first thing you notice is the crunchy texture. As the crisps are hand baked and more solid they have a real crunch to them. After the initial crunch you can then taste the cheese and onion flavouring. Bits often get stuck in your teeth and you can still taste the flavour for some time after eating the crisps. The crisps dont appear to have loads of flavouring dust on them but still have a nice strong cheese and onion flavour. I like the taste and texture of these crisps they seem to have a bit of quality about them apart from the greasy residue. The crisps are cooked in sunflower oil, not sure if that plays a part in the greasy residue they ooze.

When you get to the last few crumbs in the bag and the broken bits you can taste quite alot of salt.

These crisps are fairly good. I like the texture, the flavour and the overall quality they portray. The packaging has a quality about it as well as the structure of the crisps. The only downfall is that they probably arn't that good for you and they leave a greasy residue on your fingers.

      ~Also on Ciao.
