Advantages: A light bite that is low in calories and cost

Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too crispy for some

~~The Purchase ~~

I recently bought some lovely Ryvita original crispbread after developing a bit of an aversion to bread. So I had been looking for an alternative to replace my daily sandwich and the gluten free breads out there are somewhat expensive and tasteless to say the least. I chanced upon these original Ryvita's as I was browsing the biscuits and cracker aisle of my local supermarket and as I have not had these in years thought will give them a re-try.

So lunchtime I loaded them up with butter and slices of thin cucumber and have to say I was not disappointed with the taste and quality of these lovely crackers. Although light and crispy they still seem to retain a good deal of flavour and they are not so thin as to be unsatisfactory in dealing with hunger pangs.

~~The Big Eat~~

They are still filling enough to replace the mighty sandwich (in my opinion). Although I chose to have a light topping you can of course load them up with any kind of topping; which includes not just savoury toppings. The manufacturers are currently advocating you try them with 'cream cheese, sliced strawberries, crumbled digestives and chocolate shavings' (yes altogether!) not my taste but hey-ho sounds good for a summer picnic and certainly not a topping I would have immediately thought of. My usual topping is something light like Philadelphia, or mozzarella or just plain butter. That is the beauty of these lovely crackers, you can have them in the cupboard and as long as you have some butter in the fridge you can run up a cheap and low fat snack. There is no worry about what is the sell by date do I have to use it up in the next 2 days! (like bread) , the packet I have has a use has it gone too dry what shall I have on it have I got anything in make up a lunch.

~~ Alternatives ~~

I have to add that I recently in a very hasty visit to Lidl's I purchased their own brand version of the these Ryvitas thinking what could be the difference ? Oh how wrong I was, the cheaper brand was like trying to eat cardboard with butter on the top. So it was no comparision to these Ryvita originals. Looking at the original's I noticed they have more puffiness to the centre and I can only assume this is what helps give it its superior flavour and crunch.

~~ Costs and calories ~~

They come in a 250 gram pack and there is plenty of crackers in there to last a good few days for lunches and snacks (I normally have 3 for lunch). As for the price, it is a price crunching £1 per pack in Asda.
In addition to these points, each slice holds only 10 calories, and the ingredients are just wholegrain rye flour and salt. They are low in fat and high in fibre with no artificial colours or preservatives.

Ryvia also have a website you can go to dedicated for getting inspiration for toppings also - www.ryvita.co.uk so if your ever stuck for ideas you can always google that and get some possibly inventive topping ideas.

~~Summary~~

All in all I am so glad I chanced upon these lovelies as in my opinion I give it a great
5 stars ***** for price and taste.

Summary: A Great Budget Busting Snack with a long use by date and great tasting to boot!
