Advantages: Great taste, texture, filling, range of different flavours
Disadvantages: Nothing!
The product is made by Ryvita whom I'm sure many of you will have heard of as they are well known for selling a large range of healthy products such as crackers and crisp breads. The product I am reviewing is called Ryvita Thins and they were voted product of the year 2012. I have actually purchased this product before it won product of the year, so I knew before then that they were a great product. The thins are flatbreads which are then covered in multi seeds. The thins are perfect for sharing and are high in fibre. The thins currently come in three different flavours including Multi-Seed, Sweet Chilli, Cheddar and Cracked Black Pepper. The multi-seed one's appealed to me as I love seedy things such as bread with seeds in, etc. I also though that they looked a bit more appetising compared to the other one's, due to the seeds on to the top of the flatbread. I actually purchased the thins to take to work with me for my lunch instead of buying sandwiches from the shop all the time. I also purchased some Houmous dip to go with the flatbreads; how-ever they do suggest Guacamole dip as well as Houmous.
The box of flatbreads cost me £1.89 from my local Sainsburys store. It doesn't state how many flatbreads you get in the box, how-ever it does state 125g. You can also purchase these from other Supermarkets from the same price.
Each thin contains the following:
* Calories - 37 (2% RDA)
* Sugars 0.2g (<1% RDA)
* Fat - 0.9g (1% RDA)
* Saturates - 0.2g (1% RDA)
* Fibre - 0.9g (4% RDA)
* Salt - 0.15g (3% RDA)
Contains: Wheat and Gluten.
May Contain: Milk
Suitable for vegetarians.
The thins come in a cardboard box which is quite colourful in colour. On the front of the box is a picture of the flat-bread with the end dipped into a small bowl of dip. It states the nutritional information on the front. On the back you will find a list of ingredients, detailed nutritional information and details about the product winning Product of the year 2012. When you open the main box, you will pull out a clear plastic tray in which the flatbreads are in. I could clearly see that some of the flatbreads were a little broken as some were shorter than others. The thins are the length of the plastic tray and they sit in here nicely on their side lined up next to each other. I took out one of the flatbreads and inspected it. The flatbread felt crispy and quite firm. There was a nice helping of different seeds sprinkled over the whole top length of the flat bread. The thins smelt very seedy, rather than anything else. I dipped the thin into the houmous and then bit the end off into my mouth. The flatbread was crunchy as I bit into it and it didn't fall apart which I thought would happen when I bit into it. The texture was very crisp and I could feel the texture of the seeds in my mouth which crunched a little when I bit into them. The thin tasted delicious with the dip as it didn't make the flatbread taste or seem dry. I continued to eat the rest of the flatbread and after I had finished that one I then ate another.
I ate about 3-4 of these and then decided that, that was enough for me and I didn't want to eat anymore and feel too bloated. Believe it or not 3-4 of these with some of the Houmous dip was enough for me for my lunch along with a piece of fruit. This sounds like a very boring lunch, how-ever it was really tasty and it made such a lovely change to having the same sandwiches all the time. In terms of value I don't think they are bad value at all as they are really tasty and a good quality product. I would definitely buy these again and highly recommend them to others as a snack watching a movie or for a catch up with friends. As these were so tasty, I will also consider trying the other flavours in this range too.
