“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: Pack of 12 White Rolls „
My hunt for getting the best value for money has continued with me buying these white bread rolls from Sainsburys. I didn't actually know these existed in the Sainsburys Basics range, but I spotted them on the shelf last week and after glancing at the price, I couldn't say no. For the tiny price of 35p, you can get a pack of 12 white bread rolls!
The rolls come stacked in a clear plastic wrapper with a small white label stuck on the front. They are quite easy to spot of you know what you are looking for as they will be in the bread section of any Sainsbury's Supermarket. The label on the front has all of the product information on it and it is in the very recognisable orange and white colours that is present through-out the entire Sainsburys Basics range. Each roll measures 8cm x 9cm x 4cm, which is a nice sized roll for the price.
On opening the pack, all the rolls felt very fresh despite the best before date only being 2 days after I bought them. I therefore kept half out and froze the rest for later use. With a good bread knife, the rolls cut very easily in half to show a nice white and airy textured bread in the roll. By itself, the rolls have a nice taste that does not seem any different from more expensive rolls. I have been using these to make sandwiches (mayo, turkey, lettuce, tomato and cheese) and I find that the bread is really easy to spread butter on and then to make a sandwich with. Unlike other rolls I have used, the bread does not disintegrate when you try and spread butter on it. This is very good as it means it is much easy to make a sandwich with. As part of a sandwich, the rolls are just the right thickness to make it easily edible and I find that two rolls will keep me full till dinner time.
As they are very cheap rolls, I expected that they would contain a lot of "extra" ingredients to bulk them out cheaply. This does seem to be the case as in total there are 12 ingredients. This isn't too overly excessive considering the price. Health wise, they do actually seem quite good. Per roll they contain 108 calories, 0.7g of fat, 0.4g of salt and 1.6g of sugar.
Being so cheap, tasty and freezable makes these rolls very good in comparison to other rolls/loaves of bread that I have tried. Due to these factors and how much I like them, I am going to give these 5/5 as they are a brilliant part of the Sainsburys Basics range. I have never seen rolls this cheap before and I may stock up as I don't know how long they will be at this price for. Well worth a try if your on a budget and want to make some savings.
Thanks for reading.
