Advantages: Cheap and tasty

Disadvantages: None

Recently, I have been doing more shopping at Sainsbury's. This is due to moving to a different area, and having a Sainsbury's close to my home. I have been trying quite a few of the Basics range, and am generally very pleased with the quality. Sainsbury's seem to really be promoting and expanding their Basics range at the moment, with lots of adverts featuring Jamie Oliver.

Sainsbury's Basics Chocolate Digestive Bars are a product that I have bought a few times, as they are very tasty and great value. They cost £1.03 for a packet of 20 individually wrapped chocolate biscuit bars. The front of the pack states that they are made with 'real chocolate' and are 'great for lunchboxes'. They would be ideal for putting in a lunchbox, or putting in your bag, as a snack to have when out and about.

I think that these biscuits taste really good. The biscuit is a crumbly digestive, and is similar to a shortcake in texture. The milk chocolate covering is quite thin, and tastes very creamy and sweet. I imagine that the cost of the biscuits is kept down by having only a thin coating of chocolate, rather than a thicker one. The chocolate is 25% minimum Cocoa Solids.

Each biscuit contains 98kcal, 1.2g of protein, 12.0g of carbohydrates(sugars 6.0g), 5.0g of fat (2.6g saturates), 0.4g of fibre and 0.2g of salt. They aren't that healthy, due to the high levels of fat and sugar, but as an occasional treat, they are just under 100kcal per bar, which isn't too bad as part of a balanced diet.

Allergy information - they contain milk, wheat gluten, oat gluten and soya, and are not suitable for nut allergy sufferers.

Summary: Delicious chocolate biscuit bars
