Advantages: Great taste
Disadvantages: Hugely fatty
It would seem that something like Salted Peanuts are a fairly simple product to do well. The Sainsbury's Basics range shows that you don't need a load of flashy packaging to get a great tasting nut (or in this case legume).
At just 23p for a 200g pack they are really great value and they taste fantastic as well. The taste is equally gorgeous as the branded varieties, and I can see no reduction in quality in these. I am a big fan of savoury snacks and a packet of Sainsbury's Basics Salted Peanuts is fast becoming my regular weekday treat. This is probably not a good thing as peanuts are not very good for you, these being no exception. Each 50g serving contains 320kcal and a whopping 26g of fat (remember that's only for a 50g serving; a quarter of a packet!).
The packaging is definitely of the no frills variety but it is functional, easy to open and contains all the relevant nutritional info you would require.
The only problem I have with these is that they make me insatiably thirsty (probably the high fat and salt content). This happens with all salted nuts so it is not a criticism of the Sainsbury's Basics range, but rather peanuts in general.
I would recommend these whole heartedly. They are so cheap and there is no depreciation in quality from the branded varieties. Result! 4 out of 5.
Summary: A naughty but nice treat
