“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: Snacks „
One thing I really do like to munch on is a sausage roll. Sadly I don't live close enough to a Greggs to grab one of my favourite offerings very often so I'm relegated to buying one's such as this from Sainsbury's on my weekly visit!
Clear, beige and brown plastic wrapper and on the front of the packet I'm told they are Sainsbury's 6 Lincolnshire Snack Sausage Rolls and there is an at a glance nutritional chart on there and I'm told that they are made from British pork, freezable and the best before date is clearly stamped on. On the back of the packet other information includes ingredients and allergy advice being listed along with a full nutritional rundown, heating instructions are given and contact details for Sainsbury's are given. It's a nice enough informative wrapper and easy to open etc.
The sausage rolls:
Well you can heat these up or have them cold that's down to your preference of course. If you want them heated up from chilled it'll take about 12 minutes and from frozen about 18 minutes in the oven. My Mum likes to heat hers in the microwave though personally I don't like to do that and only ever eat these cold as I find them to melt and go a bit gloopy and greasy in the microwave.
Taste wise these are simply ok. They are small squares, with flat undersides and are latticed to the top of them meaning you can see a bit of the porky pink mixture through the pastry lid. The pastry isn't awful but it is rather stodgy and not very flaky and doesn't contain all that much flavour really. The pork filling though is generous, well seasoned and you can taste a little herbs such as sage and marjoram going on in there. These are not the best sausage rolls I've ever tasted but they are certainly not the worst and at least they aren't greasy (if served cold). Not bad!
