I usually buy the New York Bagels but when I saw that Sainsbury's had started doing their own I thought they were worth a try.
They aren't actually much cheaper than the New york ones. These are £1.00 for 4 and the new york ones are about £1.20 for 5. I suppose it depends on how many you want. For a 2 person household though 4 is plenty and it saves arguments over the 5th one, and a saving of 20p every week, soon mounts up.
I actually found the texture of these better than the new york bagels, but only slightly, I think bagels are all pretty much the same. These seemed to be less sticky feeling on the outside than the new york ones though.
They were very easy to cut in half, and didn't leave much mess, and they toasted beautifully, (in a toaster not under a grill).
These tasted just as good as the new york bagels, but maybe a tad less sweet, I find that new york bagels have a bit of a sweet tang to them, so I actually prefer these ones.
Sainsbury's does it again with their quality products.
