We always have a cake in the office when it's someone's birthday and last week it was the turn of the Sainsbury's Seriously Chocolate Cake.

Description
A large chocolate cake (no, really?) covered and filled with chocolate ganache buttercream and with white and milk chocolate curls on the outside edge. It also has flat chocolate 'gift packages' as decoration on the top.

The box says 16 servings and for once they are right as it is very rich. It did 10 people with generous portions at the birthday on Friday, me some 'seconds' five minutes ago, and I'm still sitting here looking at 1/4 of the cake. Per 16th of the cake there are 350 calories but I'm trying not to think about that.

It is suitable for vegetarians and cost £7.99.

What's it like to eat?
This is one delicious cake. Rich, gooey, moist. The cake itself has a very good texture, although it tends to crumble just a little too much and you get crumbs everywhere (ahem, not my fault I've got crumbs on my keyboard, honest). The buttercream is thick and has a wonderful flavour; you can tell it has real butter in there and good quality cocoa.

As a measure of how moist this cake is - we forgot about it on Friday and left it out on a spare desk, uncovered. It is still perfectly good to eat today, Monday, and has not dried up at all.


Overall
A terrific choice for a grown-up cake for someone with a seriously sweet or seriously chocolatey tooth! The decorations make it a very flexible choice for all sorts of occassions: birthdays, anniversaries, congratulations - anything you might be getting presents at!
