After my disappointment with my Marmite Cashews, I decided last night to try some of Sainsburys Smoke Flavour Almonds which I purchased at the same time as the Marmite ones. I hope these are not a let down too!.
These come in a small silver foil bag (about the size of a packet of Hoola Hoops) with a blue flash across the top showing a dish of these nuts. Not looking to good at the top of the bag though, as it has those "Traffic Light symbols" and all I can see is 4 red ones and 1 green one. Well never mind it is only a treat and not something I will eat on a regular basis ( or not at all if they are rank!).
Opening the bag and peering in all looks good as they look very inviting, on pulling one out I notice that they have a slight powder coating and still have their brown skins on ( which I don't mind!). They all look exactly the same size and on biting into one it is heaven!.
These have a slight hint of a smokey flavour that is not to overpowering, but just enough to notice it. Some of the almonds look darker than some of the others as this is due to them being covered that bit more with the smoke flavour. The almonds taste very fresh and crunchy and I must say are very moreish indeed which is not a good sign!.
These consist of 3 main ingredients, Almonds, Sunflower Oil and Smoke Flavour, with the Smoke flavour consisting of quite a few ingredients being;
~~Lactose (from cows milk) ~~
~~Yeast Powder ~~
~~Natural Smoke Flavouring ~~
~~Onion Powder ~~
~~Yeast Extract ~~
~~Garlic Powder ~~
~~Natural Colour ~~
~~Paprika Extract Rusk( Wheat Flour, Salt, Water, Raising Agent, Ammonium Bicarbonate).~~
These come in a 85g size bag and half a bag will knock you back;
~~of which sugars 0.8g~~
~~of which sats 2.3g~~
These are definitely an adults snack and not suitable for small children due to them choking on these. At 88p a bag I will be buying these again and shall eat just a couple at a time ( if I can muster up the willpower!) as I like almonds and I'm sure my nails seem to grow much quicker when I eat a few nuts over the Christmas period ( this always sets me off on a nuts trail after Christmas because of cracking all those nuts over the festive season!!).
