Will be buying this one again.

SAINSBURY'S TASTE THE DIFFERENCE CARROT CAKE (all butter).

Currently available from Sainsbury's for just £1.99p this lovely delicious carrot cake already boxed and suitable for Vegetarians.

      The Package **********

Comes in a box made of carboard, with a clear half circle viewing window, and easy to open, with a carrot cake inside with a thin carboard edging and plastic covering.

This all butter carrot cake is packed with a carrot on the top (not a real one) and a layer of the most delicious cream cheese topping.

      The Taste **********

This is truly a delicious cake with a lovely cream cheese topping and the cake is really soft and moist with a cream filling in the centre with jam, and its such a lovely carrot cake, considering it is already packed it tastes good. This is one from the taste the difference range and it is lovely.

Serves six people so a good one to have at Christmas especially if you dont eat Christmas Cake.

One slice of this cake is a calorie counting 248, but you really dont need a big slice now do you, and it contains 12.3 grams of fat, and total sugars of 19.3grams, sat fat of 7.7gs, salt 0.38gs, and it is finished with a spiced dusting, it is made with Wheat Flour, Light Brown Sugar, Tapioca Starch, Mixed Spices, Cinnamon, Lemon Juice, Full Fat Soft Cheese, Eggs and Carrots.

Allergy Advice : - Contains Milk, Egg and Wheat Gluten. Is not suitable for Nut Sufferiers. (due to the methods used in the making of this cake).

      Carton - Card widely recycled.
      Collar- card widely recycled.
      Film not recyclable.

The Cake tastes lovely and spicey and yet remaining a sponge like quality cake with a generous buttercream filling and topping, i think that this is such a good value for money cake.

I would recommend this if you want a cake for good value for money, lovely with a cuppa anytime.

Thanks for reading and rating my reviews. x

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A great little cake for a mini occasion! Carrots also make the cake sound so healthy!

Sainsburys Taste the Difference range has been produced as a range that is known as being quite high quality (and subsequently generally higher price).

Having said that though I am very impressed with the small cakes costing £1.99 (Currently on offer at 2 for £3.00). Obviously, this is a Sainsburys range so only sells at Sainsburys!!!

I love carrot cake, particularly with butter icing!!! I do find though that pre packaged cakes are not usually quite right, however approach with an open mind....

The box is flimsy card with an acetate widow. When you open the box the cake is well protected in a plastic bag. It has cardboard round it and a paper base. - OK so alot of packaging, which is maybe unnecessary.

The cake is supposed to serve 6. These would be quite large slices though - it can stretch alot further.

        The ingredients are
Wheat Flour, Vegetable Oil, Sugar, Free Range Egg, Carrots, Walnuts, Brown Sugar, Humectant: Vegetable Glycerine; Cornflour, Emulsifiers: Sodium Stearoyl-2-Lactylate, Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids; Cinnamon, Mixed Spice, Salt, Sugar, Butter, Full Fat Soft Cheese, Salt.

This cake is not suitable for Coeliacs, nut allergy sufferers and milk allergy sufferers.

The cake itself looks very pleasant, but not particularly exciting. However I was extremely impressed by the taste. The sponge is fairly light and porous - making the cake easy to eat. There are only six percent carrots in the recipe, so you can see them more than tasting them! It is not very sweet - I was quite surprised by this but do prefer it - the icing also makes up for it!!! It was very moist sponge on the first day of opening and still fairly moist the next day.

The icing is not particularly creamy and is fairly dry, but generally sweet and rather inoffencive. My BIGGEST gripe is that the layer of icing is rather thin. They need to thicken it lots!!!!

There are walnuts on top - traditionally in a cake and these are quite strongly flavoured!

A great little cake for a mini occasion!

          yummy cake

NAME OF FOOD: Sainsbury's Taste the Difference carrot cake.
          PACKAGING
It states that it is a new item (in a green box) on the box, which has a clear Perspex type section in order to see the cake on the left hand half of the box. This Perspex has a purple edge on the far left of the box. The right hand side of the box is split into two sections.
          White
The white section at the top right, has a picture of the cake slice in the corner. The Sainsbury's logo is in beige/light brown writing on the white section. The 'Taste the Difference' tag is in purple underneath
          Beige
The Best before date is in the bottom right corner. Yes, that's right I was shocked that the BB date was clearly visible and not in some obscure place on the bottom or elsewhere where you need to turn the cake upside down and ruin it to ensure it is still in date.
An icon in green states it is suitable for vegetarians, if applicable. This particular cake is suitable for vegetarians.
A small list of ingredients in a sentence designed to encourage you to buy the item is in light brown text. In this case it states:
"Pineapple & walnuts add a fruity sweetness to the carrots in this moist cake balanced by the zesty tang of orange butter cream".
This statement is repeated on the box sides in a purple section.
          BACKGROUND
It was a colleague's birthday and she brought two 'Taste the Difference' cakes into work for us to try.
          COLOUR
The cake was a beautiful golden brown with a white butter cream layer on the top, which was topped with pineapple pieces and walnuts.
          TASTE
Almost exactly as described in the statement written on the box. It was very tangy. It was very moist and despite being left for a couple of days over the weekend, in the office (not the fridge) it was still OK to eat on the Monday, although a little drier, which was to be expected.
          SMELL
Absolutely gorgeous. It was very tempting.
          MAIN INGREDIENTS
Base states which ingredients could cause allergies. In this case, contains nuts, eggs, milk, Soya, wheat and gluten. As I now have a wheat intolerance this information is important to me to be able to find easily and I can not eat this item again to alter the review and add more about the taste, etc.
It also has pineapple, carrots and orange butter cream. Nutritional information - 1/6 of a cake has 250 kcal, 0.7g fibre, 32.4 g carbohydrates (sugars 23.5g), 12.4g fat (saturates 5.3g), and 0.2g salt.
          PRICE
£1.89 for one box. This easily cut into about 8 or 10 good sized pieces. For a fancy cake, this was well worth the money.
          GOOD POINTS
          1. Allergies trigger points well advertised
          2. Best before date in a sensible place
          3. Extremely tasty
          BAD POINTS
          1. Other than it went dry when left out, no particular bad points noted.
          AFTERWARDS
I was so pleased with this cake, I would like to buy it myself for special occasions and for work purposes, for others to eat.

          Response to comments received:
This review was written for another review website some time ago, and I have only just had the product added to this site.

As I am now on a wheat free diet and therefore can not eat this product I am unable to add to this review.

As the product when purchased was new I took the time to review what was also good about the packaging. I am sorry if this bored you, but yes I do believe that some of that information would be extremely useful to consumers such as allergy advice, suitable for vegetarians, best before date being on the top of the box, etc.
