Seabrook Crinkle Cut Crisps
Advantages: delicious, thin but crispy, perfect quality guaranteed
When it comes to the crunch, if I had to pick between sweet and savoury snacks, savoury wins hands down almost every time. I would much rather munch down on a giant bag of potato crisps any day! That's not to say I'm not fussy about them and it has to be said that Seabrook Sea Salted potato crisps are up there in my favourites.
Seabrook have been tantalising tastebuds for around 60 years so far, so they are clearly a massive success and no doubt some of you had them in your packed lunches at school! They are more thin cut than walkers and they are cooked in sunflower oil to make them that bit more healthy. They come in a selection of other flavours, some of the standard favourites such as prawn cocktail and sea salt and vinegar and some more unusual, such as Canadian Ham. The packet is red and white with the trademark Seabrooks logo on the front, along with the fact that they have been established since 1945. There is also a vertical nutritional information panel on the front of the packet, which shows the following information......
Nutritional information per 31.8g packet:
174 calories - 9% of your RDA
0.5g sugar - 1% of your RDA
9.7g fat - 14% of your RDA
1.1g saturates - 6% of your RDA
0.4g salt - 7% of your RDA
The RDA of these is based on that of an adult, so it counts for slightly more of a child's recommended daily intake. I purchased these as part of a 6 pack multipack from Tesco, all 6 were sea salted and it cost me a mere £1 on special offer...bargain!
Now for the taste test. On opening the packet, there is a reasonable quantity of crisps, all looking up at me with their golden, crispy goodness, tempting me into their foil packed for freshness packet. I always wish that companies would fill the packets just that little bit more, or make the packets a little bit smaller, but there were more in Seabrooks than other leading brands. I reach in and pick out the top one, a folded one too, they are always the best....I put it into my mouth and there is the crunchiest crunch as my mouth closes around its folded form. There is a light, thin and crispy texture to it and a nice dash of salt, but nothing too dramatic. I am not a fan of really salty flavourings on things but there was a healthy amount on each crisp. They are all crinkle cut crisps, which makes them taste even better when they are folded over in my opinion! NOne of them looked overcooked or green, and given that I personally consumed 5 out of 6 of these packets over a 3 day period, I think this is a fair assessment that their quality is as outstanding as their taste.
The packet was consumed rather quickly and on occasions I did reach for a second packet straight after, no self control with these I'm afraid!
If you're looking for a light, crunchy crisp with a twist of sea salt that is still filling as a mid afternoon snack, then these are exactly what you are looking for. Personally I would not have 2 packets at once given the calories, but sometimes, you just have to, right?
Summary: munch down on some of these today!
