Smiths Bacon Flavoured Fries
Advantages: Lovely strong meaty flavour, lower in fat than some similar sized pub snacks, cardboard backing.
Disadvantages: Expensive, small packet, not filling.
=== The product ===
These are bacon flavour crisps or 'fries'. Each crisp is a bite size one that looks a little rugged. The rectangle shape contains a lighter coloured corn and then a purple/brown/red kind of colour which is representing the bacon flavour of these 'fries'. Each fry looks a little unique as they aren't a uniform exact shape and some of them are a little damaged in the packaging giving them each a unique edge and design.
=== The packaging ===
This packaging has been the same for as many years as I can remember. The packaging is the purple/brown/red kind of colour that I cannot quite describe yet is often the colour of bacon flavour crisps. The packaging, is small, neat and compact and is quite well designed. There is just something about seeing one of these hanging on the cardboard backing in my local pub that makes me want to purchase a packet.
=== Are these tasty? ===
The smell of these crisps is incredibly strong as soon as the packet is open and they are delicious from the off. Each fry is coated with a lovely amount of bacon flavouring. They are crunchy, hard and mouth wateringly good. I would say that they don't taste exclusively of bacon, they have a more meaty flavour in general that is a little more difficult to put my finger on. I can smell a strong meat smell from the bag as well but this is a little more like bacon than the actual taste of the crisps.
They are tasty, each crisp is moorish, crunchy and makes me want another one. It is very hard to eat just one packet of these but it is usually the cost of such a small packet that makes me blanch at the thought of purchasing another bag rather than looking like a pig!

=== Where can I buy these from & for how much? ===
I have been paying 65p per packet (yes, shocking I know!) from my local pub but these can be purchased, in strips of 24, like those from the pub, for around £11.00 from several online places including Amazon.co.uk. This equates to 50p per packet and I have also seen 6 packets in my local Poundland but that is 3 packets of scampi fries & 3 of bacon fries so it depends on your preferences really. I personally do not like the Scampi fries a lot so I am happy to pay a little extra and treat myself to a packet of these now and again from my local pub.
=== Overall opinion ===
I am a fan of almost any type of bacon crisps and these are available from my local pub. These are my preferred packet of crisps when I am out in the pub having a drink with my husband even if they are a little expensive compared to other packets of crisps. These are not going to satisfy your food appetite as such because of the small size but they are ideal as a little pub snack.
The fat content of these is not quite as high as some similar sized crisps so this is obviously a plus point. The scent and flavour of these is strong, they are different to your standard supermarket bacon rashers as they have a meatier taste and I do not find that these repeat on me in the way that some supermarket bacon rashers do.
Overall I really like these and they go well with a vodka on the rocks in the pub after a busy day at home or in the office for myself or my husband.
Summary: A lovely scented packet of crisps that won't fill you up & will empty your wallet fast.
