Advantages: taste, nutrition content

Disadvantages: none for me!!

Smiths Chipsticks have been around for years, I remember eating these when I was much younger along with 'Bones' (Does anyone else remember them? People look at me in horror when I ask them) probably the strongest flavour of Salt and Vinegar available on any snack that I have ever had yet I rarely buy them in.

As I was in Poundland the other day stocking up on batteries and padded envelopes I spotted a mutli pack of these offering 8 packets instead of the usual 6, so at a pound for 8 bags I couldn't pass them up. Still in the familiar blue and white bags they always have been and still proclaiming the name of 'Smiths' (even though they are now Walkers) they still taste the same as they ever did.

They are a maize snack that are fashioned into long chunky strips (chips in other words) and are extremely crunchy and crumble between your fingers if you hold them too tight. The flavour of vinegar is very intense and if you are not a fan of strongly flavoured snacks then these will be no good to you as they do make your mouth water and can described as being a 'sharp' flavour.

If you have any issues with your gums or have any nicks or cuts in your mouth I wouldn't recommend them as they will sting if you get even the smallest amount into any sore parts of your mouth - you have been warned!

They make a really nice change from regular potato crisps and have a much better flavour than the supermarket own brand maize snacks that you can buy. For me even though I don't buy them in that often they are a real treat that offer a full flavoured snack and aren't all that bad calorie wise when compared with crisps and other snacks.

Being a multipack packet they are smaller than a regular packet of crisps and a single multipack bag will provide only 107 calories and 5.2 grams of fat of which only 0.4 grams are saturates. The low saturated fat content to me is excellent and a reason why I should substitute regular crisps for these on a more regular basis and now that I have actually discovered this I think I will!

Another positive thing to note is that there is not a lot of dead space within a bag of these; normally multipack crisps seem to settle on the bottom of the bag and leave a lot of space between the top of the bag and the bottom. The Chipsticks are stuffed into the bags and there are plenty of individual sticks to satisfy even my savoury tooth.

Overall I do recommend these, especially when they work out at just over 12p a pack if you can find the multipacks containing 8 bags, even a regular bag containing 6 packets still only work out at just over 16p a pack and that has to be a bargain.

For the exceptional taste, value for money and nutrition content these do rate a perfect 5/5 Dooyoo stars from me, cheaply available at Poundland and are also stocked in supermarkets for around £1.20 - £1.40 per multipack.

Thanks for reading my review, and please do let me know if you remember 'Bones' - they came in a black packet with a picture of a skeleton on the front and each piece inside was shaped like a bone. Salt and Vinegar flavoured and I'm sure they were manufactured by Smiths - Thanks!
