Advantages: Interesting texture and shape
Disadvantages: Only 2 flavours (although their both very good)
It's always nice when you come accross a product from your childhood, I remember them being present in every single vending machine accross the country during the late 80's early 90's, when I was but a mere babe in arms ; )
The first thing to attract your attention is the stripy blue packaging, very distinctive and eye catching ensuring they stand out from the rest. But it's not only the packaging that sets them apart from others of its piers, it's not really even the taste which is a fairly standard (but good) representation of Salt & Vinegar, it is in fact the texture that makes Chipsticks leap out from the competition in my eyes.
The crisps have an almost crumbly texture (not a typical adjective where crisps are concerned), in fact they are similar in that respect to frazzles (another product that used to be produced by Smiths until they were taken over by Walkers.)
While texturally they are very pleasing the crumbly nature make them a bit messy to eat, with fingertips fast becoming covered in Salt & Vinegar maize dust, not a very sophisticated look but tasty to lick off, yum yum.
Another slight gripe (and it is only very slight) is that the same crumblyness makes these things a magnet for your teeth, expect to have to brush straight away after a bag of these.
As well as the Salt & Vinegar flavour there is also a ready salted (which I actually prefer), I'm not sure why only these two flavours but there you go, I would love to see maybe a habanero chili flavour but I think this is very unlikely to happen :' (
Thankfully Chipsticks are still being sold today, I reccomend them to anyone with their nostalgic hat on, anyone who likes to snack and anyone who likes Frazzles.
Summary: Yummy Yum Yum.
