      they wont ruin your diet

I'm one of those people who likes to snack a lot, unfortunately for me those snacks soon add inches to my waistline. I'm always on the look out for healthier snacks but find most of the so called health snacks are either horrible or full of sugar or just taste bad. One snack which is truly low calorie and utterly delicious is the salt and vinegar popcorn from snack a jacks. When I first saw the popcorn, I knew it would be something that I either loved or hated as it sounded like an odd combination however I instantly fell in love with them. When you open the packet the smell of vinegar greets you. Each little kernel of pale popcorn is perfectly popped and has a lovely squeaky, chewy and slightly crispy texture. The salt and vinegar flavour is pretty strong, the vinegar nice and sour and tangy without overwhelming the delicate taste of the popcorn. I'm not quite sure how they add the flavour as there is no powdery coating like there is on crisps but however it is achieved it is brilliant. The best thing about these packets of popcorn is that each packet only contains a tiny 29 calories so you can grab a bag -or two- without ruining your diet. I find I reach for these instead of calorific crisps but I can imagine that for the true crisp addict these would not do. The only downside is that they are relatively expensive, a small bag costs around 50p with the six pack costing around £1.80 but they can sometimes be found on special offer. Salt and vinegar popcorn may not be something that appeals to everyone due to the odd flavour combination but if you want a healthy snack on a diet then they are worth a try.

Stick to rice cake which are delicious.

After trying the snack a jacks salt and vinegar rice cakes and loving them, I thought I'd give the salt and vinegar popcorn a try. Big mistake. they look good, like regular popcorn really, they are reasonably priced, approx £1.90 for a pack of 6- much the same as any other crisps and they are low calorie, but this is where the good points end. The main problem with them is the taste. They really lack flavour. The snack a jacks rice cakes are so flavoursome that my 18 month old son who eats anything wouldn't put them in his mouth so I expected a burst of flavour from these. They did not deliver. They had a slight salty flavour but mainly tasted of cardboard. They are not crunchy and don't snap when bitten like their rice cake counterparts. They seem to bend when bitten much like cardboard would if you chose to eat it! I was disappointed with these snacks and will not be buying them again.

        Disadvantages

I just don't think that salt and vinegar popcorn works - it's not too bad though

My husband picked up a multi-pack of Snack a Jacks Popcorn a couple of weeks ago during a trip to the supermarket. We are all a bit addicted to snacking in our house, although I feel like I'm permanently on a diet, so we tend to have a few lower-fat snacks around. Obviously my intentions are to snack on healthy things like fruit and carrot sticks, but the reality is that I'm much more likely to reach for a bag of crisps. We usually buy Walkers Baked as they are not 'too' bad in terms of fat and calories, but Snack and Jacks Popcorn provides an even lower calorie solution to my snacking problem. ** Packaging ** We bought the Salt and Vinegar flavour which comes in a shiny blue and purple foil packet with a swirly flower background and photographic images of floating popcorn on it. The front of the pack says 'Snack a Jacks, less than 10% fat' and has the nutritional information clearly displayed. It is an attractive package and makes the product feel more appealing. The multi-pack bags are 13g each and come in packs of 6. ** Flavour ** Basically, this product tastes like you would expect it to - like popcorn. It has the familiar popcorn texture and manages to be essentially soft while still giving a satisfying crunch. However, I'm not convinced that Salt and Vinegar works as a popcorn flavour. I love both salted and sweet popcorn, but there's something about the vinegar flavour which just doesn't work in my opinion, although I'm a big fan of salt and vinegar crisps. It's not an unpleasant flavour, and I will eat the remaining bags in the multi-pack as I definitely don't hate it, but I am just not convinced that popcorn and vinegar are a good combination. ** Nutritional Information ** The biggest selling point for me is that the pack of popcorn only has 29 calories. That means I can eat it without feeling guilty. It has 0.8g of fat and 0.1 of saturated fat. In terms of calories and fat, it is just 1% of an adult's guideline daily amount, which I think makes it ideal for a little snack mid-morning when you just need to munch on something. However, the salt content is relatively high at 0.3g (or 5% of the recommended amount), so if you already have a salty diet, then they're not such a good choice. ** Price ** A pack of six 13g bags of popcorn costs £1.94. You can also buy a 35g pack at 46p each. ** Alternative Flavours ** These also come in Lightly Salted, Butter Toffee and Chocolate flavours - all of these appeal to me more than the Salt and Vinegar flavour did, so I might well give them a try at some point in the future. ** Conclusion ** This product is ok but nothing special. As I've already said, the low number of calories does appeal to me and they work well when you need a little treat to keep you going until lunch, but they're not something I'd buy all the time. I prefer the normal bags Snack a Jacks as they feel a bit more substantial and fill me up for longer - I ate my little bag of popcorn 30 minutes ago and I'm hungry again already, I'm not convinced that that is really a selling point. I think realistically the only reason the calories are so low is that the bag is so small - they're not really that healthy after all. I don't think I will be buying them again once we have eaten all the ones at home but I am prepared to give the other flavours a try.

          .

If you've read my recent review about Popcorn, then you should know that I love it. I can't quite eat it by the bucketload since i'm on a diet, but I can still enjoy it on my diet, since it is alright for you. Quakers launched it's Popcorn through it's Snack a Jack range. The Popcorn flavours you get are Caramel, Chocolate Toffee and Salt and Vinegar. I didn't know it was Salt and Vinegar when I picked the bag up, just assumed it was salted, as i'm sure you used to get Salted flavour. I got home and thought "eeww", as Salt and Vinegar Popcorn sounded a bit odd. You can only buy these bags in a 6 pack that I have seen. In Asda they cost £2, or 2 multipacks of Snack a jack products for £3. The design of the bag is alright. It is a shiny, metallic purply/blue colour. The Snack a Jack writing is in white again a pinky/purple circle and there is a picture of Popcorn all around the bag. This stands out again the backgrounds, and as packaging goes then this is quite nice. The larger outer bag is the same type of packaging. On the inner bag I can't find any indication of weight of pack, and it is really light feeling. I would hazard a guess and say it is probably only 10g, and that sounds like their is nothing in the bag, but Popcorn is really light and there is loads of kernals in the bag. Nutritional information per bag 29 calories 0.1g sugars 0.8g fat 0.1g saturates 0.3g salt I am well impressed by it only having 29 calories, as to me that is nothing! Although you won't be full up after eating this, this can be eated as an extra through the day to help you stick to a diet or healthy eating plan. Now, to the taste, is it odd? No, it is nice. You can certainly taste the Salt and Vinegar, but it is more a hint rather than it being really strong, and I like the taste. A great buy and something I will always have in the cupboard while eating healthily.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Great as a quick snack but definitely not for sharing.

I absolutely love salted popcorn but it often seems that I am in the minority, for a start the big bags you get in the supermarket are either toffee or sweet I never seem to find salty and secondly I never have anyone to share my popcorn with at the pictures :-(. So I was so happy when I saw snack a Jacks had introduced salt and vinegar popcorn. I bought mine in Boots and I was quite shocked at the price £0.60p for a small bag approx 13g. The packets are foil sealed so the popcorn stays fresh and on the back of the bag there is a cheeky Kama Snacker position of the month - mine was position 19 - on the train, although I am not sure the other passengers would be very pleased. (about the crumbs !!!!) I don't know if it was just me but I found the bag very hard to open, I had to use scissors but it could have just been that batch or me being an idiot !?! The popcorn smells really vinegary and made my mouth water, although they didn't taste as vinegary as they smelt which was a good thing. There is a good balance of salt and vinegar, the popcorn is crunchy and tastes fresh. Each bag only contains 29Kcal which is about a quarter of the amount a standard bag of crisps has. It also only contains 0.8g of fat. So great as a treat if you are on a healthy eating plan. The only problem I had (apart from opening the bag) was that the bag was so small. It would be fine as a snack on your tea break or on the train. But not if you want to sit and have some popcorn whilst watching a film as it would all be gone before the title credits are finished.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Great alternative to crisps, excellent morning, afternoon or evening snack.

I'm a bit of a grazer and although I am not overweight or concerned with losing any weight I do pick and snack a lot and have been getting a bit fed up of eating fruit. Hence why I have tried to find some healthy snacks rather than reaching for crisps when I would like something savoury! A pack contains six 12g bags of popcorn. These are the size of a small bag of crisps. In supermarkets they priced around £1.76 so are more expensive than crisps but a lot better for your health. These do have quite a strong salt and vinegar flavour. Before you eat a bag try and shake the bag up as otherwise when you get to the bottom of the bag the taste does quite get very strong as the smaller fragments sit at the bottom of the bag. The popcorn is reasonable crispy but it is softer than the popcorn you would get at the cinema hence my boyfriend likening it to salt and vinegar flavoured cardboard! These are a great low fat low calorie snack which can be substitute crisps in your packed lunch. I have a really sweet tooth and have never been a fan of savoury popcorn but I love this stuff and eat at least 6 bags in a typical week! What is great about these is that although they are not the most filling of snacks they do stop hunger cravings. Even if you do eat another pack at 29 calories a bag and 0.5g of fat per bag you haven't even consumed the calories or fat that are in a full bag.

                Snack-a-Jacks salt and vinegar popcorn

I like popcorn and a great product that can be found in the pop corn world are the Snack-a-Jacks Pop Corn snacks. Snack-a-Jacks themselves have quite a range of different products which I will mention at the end of this review but the one I am going to focus on are the pop corn snacks. Basically they are little pop corn kernels, already popped and ready to eat. What's nice about these is that they come in handy packs, just like crisp packets so if you are looking for a packet of crisps but fancy something different then these are a nice change. It's almost like eating crisps because they are in bite size pieces. The packet itself is foil inside so guarantee to keep the pop corn nice and fresh and I have always found them very crunchy and never stale. The colour of the packet depends upon the flavour of the rice cakes that you get. For example, the salt and vinegar flavour comes in a bright blue packet. This is another thing I love about these Snack-a-Jacks pop corn, that they come in lots of great flavours and some that you would not think of adding to popcorn, such as chocolate. As mentioned above they have salt and vinegar, lightly salted and butter toffee. They have a chocolate flavour if you are looking for something a bit more sweet and dessert like. My favourite by far is the salt and vinegar flavour. I have tried all the flavours though however and they are all good. The nice thing is that each pop corn kernel is covered with quite a bit of the flavour and are quite strong so with each bite you are guaranteed a good covering of the flavour. The other great benefit of these snacks is that they are low in fat and lower in calories than regular crisps. They actually advertise on the bag that they contain 47 calories, oh my gosh, how good is this!! That amount is for a 13g bag but in my experience I find that this is plenty enough and you do feel full after eating that amount of popcorn. Also in a 13g there is only0.8g of fat so another great benefit If you are looking for some other products you will find that they have a nice range which really compliments these snacks. They have mini rice and corn snacks which are lovely, mini bites, mini bagel bites and also jumbo size rice cakes (great for lunch!). Try some today!!

                  Worth a try

A friend in the office often ate Snack a Jacks when the rest of us had crisps or chocolate and she was very thin so I decided to give them a go. I started on the ordinary rice cakes but moved onto the popcorn ones when I got bored with the same thing every day - don't get me wrong. It took several months to get bored! The salt and vinegar flavour is my favourite as it is so sharp and tangy. Sometimes the flavour can be a little powdery and if you inhale when you eat you might end up with a coughing fit. (Or perhaps I should just eat more slowly!) The popcorn is very light and good quality. The salt and vinegar flavour works well. It can seem a little odd having vinegar on popcorn but because I had the ricecakes first, I knew what to expect from the popcorn. They are about 50 pence a pack.

I wouldn't waste your money on these!

I am trying to lose weight after having a baby 3 months ago and so dont buy crisps any more.. However, if we are watching a dvd then I do still like to have some popcorn so we usually buy a couple of bags of the snack a jacks popcorn as it's healthier than more conventional popcorn which is covered in oil! I normally buy the lightly salted one for me and the butter toffee one for my husband but I was in a hurry in the supermarket and picked up the salt and vinegar one by mistake! Now I love salt and vinegar crisps so thought that it would be interesting to see whether it worked on popcorn too! First thing I noticed when opening the bag was the overwhelming smell of vinegar.. On crisps this would have been just fine (good in fact!) but on popcorn it just smelt wrong.. Likewise when tasting it, the vinegar just didn't go in my opinion - maybe there's a healthy dose of social conditioning for you but vinegar on popcorn is just wrong!! I actually didn't finish the bag, after I'd had a few pieces of popcorn I threw them away! The popcorn itself is really light and there aren't too many of the popcorn kernels left in the bag that you find with some brands.. The other flavours of this popcorn are lovely - but this one lets them down somewhat! Per bag 29 kcals 0.1g sugar 0.8g fat (of which 0.1g saturates) 0.3g salt These will cost you £0.47 a pack (on average) but are on offer for 3 for £1 at the moment in Tesco!

try them it might surprise you

I have rekindled my love of popcorn recently and can hand on heart blame this site for my purchase of this product. I have been having a real good look at my recent weight gain and can no doubt say that chocolate bars and bourbon biscuits are solely responsible for my flabby over hanging pouch that is creeping or should that be spilling over the top of my jeans. So out comes my need to fill up on non calorie ridden snacks. I decided to type popcorn into the search box and low and behold snack a jacks salt and vinegar popcorn was amongst some of the results. During my trip to Tesco today I thought I would take a wander down the biscuit aisle and see if they had any in stock. Result not only did they have these on sale but there current offer is 3 for £1 not one to resist a bargain I threw them in the trolley. The pack is mainly blue with the snack a jacks logo and some popcorn images to boot. There are a good few enticing words that are eye catching to draw you into the health promoting snack effect of the product. Less than 50 calories per pack Less than 10% fat And the bonus of clearly displayed recommend daily allowance calculations on the front of the packet. On the back of the packet you do get the typical nutritional information and ingredients list. I could go on and list it all but here's what I find essential when choosing a healthier snack. Suitable for vegetarians/coeliacs 47 kcal per bag 1.3g of fat I decided to eat them whilst sitting in front of my laptop surfing the web, like I am ever doing anything else. The bag was certainly easy to open and if you have read any of my previous reviews you may be aware I suffer from muscle weakness so easy to open packaging is an essential thing for me. I must say that the scent from the popcorn was one of the more subtle salt and vinegary aromas I have smelt. Right sniffing done I dived right it, I have never been one to shy away from eating so grabbed a few kernels to get the full flavour and texture. For me the popcorn was the right texture and quality. Soft yet still with a slight bite to it, it certainly didn't have that choke the back of your throat break up when munching away. As for the flavour I would say that it had a more of a lean towards the vinegar side of things and this over powered any of the saltyness that I particularly like from popcorn. But if you equate this to an alternative to crisps then the basic balance is in fact almost perfect. On the quantity scale of things you do get plenty of munch for your money. It took my at least a good 5- 10 minutes to eat the full bag compare that with my ability to eat a packet or two of crisps in roughly the same time it would make me opt to reach for a packet of these first as they would be healthier and last longer. But will the pull of the taste lure me to switch my snacking habits? Perhaps in time and if I can get hold of more from the same range. For a basic low calorie alternative to salt and vinegar crisps I would say it certainly is a winner and I will be happily enjoying my next to packets over the coming night time snack attacks. If you enjoy pop corn and like salt and vinegar crisps I would suggest you give these a try, your waist line may even thank you. As Tesco say every little helps. It is a shame they won't help me by banning me from the sweets, biscuits and crisps aisles.

                    Disadvantages

They're good but I prefer mine stronger

I for one love popcorn especially for when I'm sitting around watching tv sop I have tried quite a lot of different types. Snack a Jacks Salt and Vinegar Popcorn however was not one of my favourites. Salt & Vingear is a slightly unsual flavour for Popcorn to be as it is normally just buttered or salted but I thought I'd give it a try as change is a good thing. This company also makes a lightly salted flavour, a toffee one and this one so there is quite a range to chose from. Snack A Jacks are of course famous for their rice cakes which I really enjoy and so when I bout these I thought that they would be really nice. They come in a 13g packet which is actually quite big as popcorn is light, this bag will cost you £0.48 which is a pretty cheap price. The packet is made of foil like a crisp packet. It's dark blue with what looks like light blue lowers on it but that's just a random pattern I think. There is also the Snack A Jack logo in the middle with a few kernels of popcorn floating around. There is also a large yellow box which says "Only 47 Calories" so you know that this aren't going to be too bad for you. On the back of the packet are the ingredients and the nutritional information. Once you open the packet you can see that there is quite a lot of popcorn inside it so they haven't been at all stingy here which is good news as popcorn tends to disappear really fast even when there is a lot! I'm sure that most of you know what popcorn is like, kind of soft yet chewy at the same time, hard to describe but anyway this is your average popcorn and it's taste is pretty similar to normal salted popcorn just with added vinegar. Or at least it should be. In reality there isn't really much taste there at all, they are quite plain and could do with a lot more flavouring. This really disappointed me because I'm used to their Salt & Vinegar Rice Crackers being full of flavour whereas this popcorn really could do with a lot more. However it could be a lot worse. They are only 47 calories a bag which is not at all bad for your health and they are only 50p a pack which is good for your purse. I think that the reason there isn't much flavouring is probably because we all need to cut back on our salt levels and these are therefore a healthier al;ternative to normal popcorn, however if you really want more salt then you can just add some. I give these 8 out of 10.

                      Fab Low cal snack!

I bought these from Tesco on a whim really as they are positioned next to the Ryvita minis I usually buy. I can't remember the exact price but believe they were around 45p Anyway I was drawn in by the packaging and the fact that I love popcorn and was very pleasantly surprised. I took these to work with me and had them during that mid-afternoon dip where succumbing to biscuits is usually the only option and they were amazing. I found them very satisfying - you do get quite a lot in a bag, lovely popcorn crunch with the added salt and vinegar flavours was really rather nice. I shall definitely be adding a few more of these to my shopping trolley next week. They would be great to take to the cinema as at only 46 calories per bag you can afford to indulge if you're watching your weight! They are also available in Butter toffee and slightly salted flavours

These are great! I bought these at somerfeilds for 39p or 3 for £1 and i didnt think that they would be any good. So I tried one peice and then thought, hold on that was good maybe that was not a full-of-flavour peice, so i tried another and another and then I found that there was none left! THE TASTE AND TEXTURE! ______________________ the texture is one I would probably describe as a cloudy, soft, crisp. If you have ever tasted salty popcorn, then just imagine adding some vinegar flavouring. It kind of tastes like a soft salt and vinegar crisp. THE PACKAGING! _______________________ The packaging has got a few popped kernels of popcorn and the round Snack A Jacks logo also saying that the popcorn is less than 10% fat. it also has the CSFSS markings (calories, sugars, fat, staturates, salt, percentage of an adults guideline daily amount *gda*) The colour scheme is dark blue with some slightly different blue shades creating a floral pattern. and on the back it recommends some other type of snack a jacks product. and it also very clearly states the best before date (or BBE) and the quality promise. SUMMARY! ______________________ These are highly reccomended to anyone and I think that these are GREAT! with only 49 calories per bag then everyone should have at least TRIED them!
