“ Brand: Kellog's / Type: Cereal Bar „
Packed lunches are getting increasingly boring, as such I am always buying different cereal bars trying to find one that can keep my interest for more than a week!
I got two multipacks (6 bars in each) at Sainsbury's on a 2 for £3 offer. I thought £3 for 12 bars was reasonable enough, especially as this is a notoriously expensive brand, in my opinion.
The bars come individually wrapped in a white foil wrapper with the distinctive Special K 'K' and a pretty picture of an apple on them. The packaging emphasises the fact that they are only 90 calories per bar as it mentions it twice. A little over kill I felt.
I like the foil wrapper, it keeps the product fresh and safe in my lunch bag. However, the wrapper is a couple of cm larger than the actual bar and I think it is a little deceptive!
The product itself is a cluster of rice and wheat cereal with pieces of dried apple and pear hidden away. This is all kept together with some kind of sticky/sugary product. At first I thought this would be caramel but its more fruity in flavour, some sort of apple syrup perhaps. The whole thing is topped off with white yoghurt drizzled in a 'creative' manner!
When I first bite into the cereal bar its a bit of an effort as the combination of the above ingredients is quite a chew! That is not a bad thing, personally I like the chewy texture as I feel I am getting something out of my mid-morning snack and its not gone in seconds. Also, as it is chewy you can savour the taste longer. Certainly worth savouring.
These taste absolutely lovely. They are very sweet yet fruity too so they do not become sickly. The syrup used to hold it all together contrasts well with the more savoury taste of the cereal. As you chew away you get the dried pieces of fruit popping up and that is just delicious. Dried this fruit might be but it certainly hasn't lost its flavour, if anything the apple and pear flavour is enhanced and is even more fruity!
Having tried almost the entire cereal bar range at the supermarket this one has certainly stood out for me. I love the addition of the dried fruit and it really adds to the flavour, the fruit flavourings taste authentic rather than sugary as with some other products. As said, the chewy texture just adds to this and lets you experience the flavours longer.
I would definitely recommend this product and look forward to trying the other flavours on offer. I think this one will be hanging around my lunch back for some time!
To be honest I'm not a great fan of cereal bars but regularly buy them as my daughters both love them.
They are an ideal snack which can be eaten 'on the go' & are therefore ideal for many ages & suit people with many lifestyles.
As they're so light & compact they can easily be popped into a pocket, lunchbox, bag etc.
I've tried buying cheaper cereal bars but they tend to get left in the cupboard until they're out of date which means I have to pay more for Special K.
At the moment (until 27/1) Tesco's have them on offer - 2 boxes of 6 bars for £3 but I'll stock up on the Original as the Apple & Pear ones look like they're not going to eaten unfortunately!
The packaging is bright & cheerful & the box is really easy to open as it has a perforated part allowing easy access to the 6 individual bars.
Each 2.3g bar contains only 90 calories & 2g of fat so they are ideal for anyone watching heir weight.
The ingredients & all the nutritional information is provided both on the carton & on each bar.
The bars themselves are heat-sealed plastic which are a little tricky to open but the freshness is retained.
The bars are a good size & 'bridge the gap' between mealtimes because they're quite filling.
They are quite crunchy yet chewy as well & there's a definate taste of apple & pear coming through as well as the cereal taste.
I found them to be a bit too sweet for my taste but still managed to finish the bar!
- not the cheapest around.
- great texture - crunchy yet chewy as well.
- we weren't keen on the flavour although we all like apples & pears!
- Considering I'm not a fan of cereal bars in general I wasn't too disappointed but my daughters much prefer the Original so I doubt whether I'll buy these Apple & Pear ones again.
This is a great healthy snack to enjoy in between meals or whenever you need a sweet kick. The bar contains only 90 calories and 2g of fat which is quite a low fat snack for something so tasty. The cheapest I have found them is from Asda, they cost £1.79 for 6 which is just less than 30p a bar. They come in a cardboard pack with a picture of the cereal bar on the front and the apple and pear pieces around the edge. The bars are individually wrapped so perfect to take to work, or put in your bag and eat on the go.
When I opened one up, you can instantly smell the fruity apple flavour and they look really appetising. The bar is cereal based with apple pieces and pear pieces covered in a healthy yoghurt topping. The bitter/sweetness of this bar is what I like, as the apple is slightly sour and combined with the sweetness of pear works really well. They crunchy ness of the cereal and smoothness of the yoghurt topping works well, to create many textures and flavours within the bar. They are more filling than you would imagine, and keep you satisfied until your next meal, they are especially good if you have a sweet tooth like me, but dont want to ruin your diet by eating chocolate or something un healthy. As you can get the sweetness of this bar and know you are eating healthy with yummy fruity pieces.
