Jaffa Cakes - Strawberry.... I had seen these on the shelves but hadn't tried them out because I know how much I like the original ones but I finally parted with my £1 and tried a box. They look just like original Jaffa cakes as they are covered over the top in a thin layer of milk chocolate and they have a soft sponge base. They also have the jelly middle but instead of it being made up of a strong orange type of flavour this is made from a strong strawberry type of flavour. The smell is instantly recognisable of strawberry's so I don't think you would think you were eating an orange one as the smell is rather strong. The packaging is only slightly different in the manner than instead of a blue and orange design they have changes the orange to a pink colour (representing strawberry flavour). This is easy to see that you are picking up a different box of Jaffa cakes so again you shouldn't be silly enough to get the wrong one. The taste is rather nice and does make for a change. I can't say that I prefer them to the original ones as the flavour seems a lot sweeter and I would probably feel sicker than I usually do when I eat a whole packet. There are still 12 in a box and the price of 98 pence is just the same as the original ones but in all honesty I would much prefer to stick to buying the old classic ones with the orange flavour. All in all I think that these Strawberry Jaffa Cakes are nice for a little bit of a change but I shan't be buying them again any time soon. I have also tried the lime flavour Jaffa cakes and liked these far better.. Perhaps it is all citrus type fruits which generally taste better made into a Jaffa cake. I think a 3 out of 5 star rating is in order for these Jaffa Cakes and a slight recommendation if indeed you like really sweet things.
***JAFFA CAKES STRAWBERRY FLAVOUR*** Everyone knows that Jaffa Cakes are yummy cakes with a tangy, jelly orange flavoured centre which is then covered in delicious dark chocolate. Anyone who has had Jaffa cakes will know how addictive they can be and how more-ish they are. McVities have introduced limited edition Strawberry flavoured Jaffa cakes which are available to buy in single packs (12cakes) or a double pack which contains 24 cakes. These Jaffa cakes come in a red box which also has a bit of blue on them as well. They have the same writing as on a normal box of Jaffa cakes and they have the same fat content as well which is only 1g fat per cake. On the box you will find weird and wonderful facts about strawberries. I'm not sure how much longer these will be available to buy as they were bought out for the summer and seeing as that summer is now over they will probably disappear off the shelves in a month or so time. ***PRICE/AVALIABILITY*** I hadn't even heard of these Jaffa cakes until I saw them in Tesco at the weekend and decided to try them instead of the orange Jaffa cakes. These are available to buy from all good supermarkets for about 98p for a 12 pack and £1.63 for a 24 pack. ***APPEARANCE/SMELL*** The cakes come in a red plastic cellophane type wrapper and you can see all the cakes inside the wrapper. When opening the cellophane wrapper you can just smell a dark chocolate smell which is on top of the cakes. They are round cakes and look exactly the same as original Jaffa cakes which are a golden colour on the bottom with a nice layer of dark chocolate. ***TASTE TEST*** When biting into one of these you can feel the chocolate crack beneath your teeth and you can taste a slight strawberry smell as well. The cake isn't too soft but isn't hard either. When taking another bite form the cake you can again taste a slight strawberry taste but this is soon over-come by the dark chocolate on top of the cake. The Strawberry jelly centre isn't tangy like the orange Jaffa cakes. I don't actually think there is much taste to these strawberry Jaffa cakes as well. There is only a slight taste of strawberry and it definitely doesn't fill my mouth with a strawberry taste. ***OVERALL OPINION*** I was really excited when I saw these in Tesco and I couldn't wait to try them. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of strawberry flavour in the cake and there is only a slight hint of strawberry flavour and it seems to disappear quite quickly. These taste a lot sweeter than the original orange Jaffa cakes. If you are a fan of Jaffa cakes it may be worth trying these but in my opinion nothing beats and Original Orange Jaffa Cake!
