Tesco Bacon Rashers Bacon Flavour Crisps
Advantages: Flavour, Cost
I started buying these a few years ago because I am a big fan of Frazzles, and as any fans will know Frazzles are quite difficult to get hold of these days! Because they are a Tesco product they are only available from Tesco but seem to be available in most stores, even the smaller express ones. They come in a 150g bag for 85p. It is worth noting that the packaging is slightly different from that in the picture and is now a bit more modern with pink and silver squares. The snack can be found in the crisp aisle, next to the other big bags of crisps and tubed crisps such as Pringles.
Opening the bag you are greeted by a nice bacon smell. They smell very appetising and make you keen to eat them! The crisps themselves are about an inch in length and about half an inch wide. They are a light brown in colour with pinky coloured stripes which I imagine is meant to make them resemble streaky bacon. So tucking into them the first thing you notice is the taste, they do taste quite like bacon and there is plenty of flavouring on each crisp. The crisps melt easily in the mouth and are very moreish. They are quite crunchy but not as hard as regular crisps meaning that they are better for younger children as they dont pose as a choking hazard.
The crisps are made from Maize, making them different from the usual potato crisps. 100g (more than half the bag) contains 510 calories, 3.7g sugars, 27.4g fat (1.9g saturates) and 2.2g salt. Now these dont appear to be very healthy but it is worth noting that these figures are for 2/3 of the bag and its unlikely you will be eating that much! However, they are better as a treat and are very good served in bowls at parties.
I really like these crisps and the only thing that puts me off occasionally is the nutritional value! They are similar to Frazzles, but in my opinion slightly more salty. They are good value for money and are great to share so I recommend them.
Summary: Nice product, worth a try
