“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cakes „
I brought a couple of Tesco's Madeira cakes last week because I'm not into cake all that much and like this type of plain cake because icing and all the extras get a bit sickly. It's shaped like a loaf and looks quite plain, there's nothing exciting about the look of this cake but as soon as you open the wrapper you get a lovely sweet smell that smells quite strong of banana.
One cake did the 5 of us but it was lucky my 2 year old sister only had a little bit because the cake isn't all that big and if she hadn't been there I would have just cut it into quarters. We had it as a proper pudding with some custard and I thought it was very filling, the cake is moist and heavy.... the piece I had was just enough but no way could I munch my way through a whole one of these like I have with some of these Tesco cakes.
It's quite sweet but not overpowering, the banana taste comes and goes I think. I mean some bites taste big time of banana and other bites just taste like banana flavoured cake, it's nice like that because banana is one of them flavours that can get on my nerves a bit if it's too strong but I think it's perfect in this cake. It's proper moorish and even though I said it's heavy to eat I carried on even though I was stuffed by the time I'd ate all my cake! There's a strip of butter cream going through the cake and that's banana flavoured, there isn't much on it though so you don't get the flavour through very good and I think it would be a lot nicer if there was a thicker layer of the buttercream.
The cake has got a sticky flavour as well even though the texture of it is sponge and not syrupy or anything like that. I love the texture actually because I've got no time for light and airy cakes and would rather eat something like this that is really going to fill me up.
At the minute these Madeira type cakes are £1.29 each but when I got mine they were on offer, I think it was 2 for £2.00 at the time so it's worth buying a few if you see them on a good offer like that.
