“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Biscuits „
I am currently attempting to improve my diet and reduce my bad snacking habits but the temptation for digestive biscuits is just too great! I usually favour Tesco's Value range Milk Chocolate Digestives, but this chocolate chip version looked appealing. They are part of the regular own brand range from Tesco, and cost 65p for a 400g packet.
The biscuits come in a simple plastic wrapper, with a bright red backing and a photo pg the biscuits to tempt your appetite! There is an easy open tear tab at one end, and unlike other easy open packaging, this one actually works! The only problem is that the end biscuit always seems to get knocked or sustain a little damage so then when you open the packet a little shower of crumbs fall out. No big deal if you're careful but I always seem to end up getting myself covered in it.
These bargain biscuits are simply amazing. They taste incredibly good, and seriously satisfy my sweet tooth. The biscuit base is firm and crunchy and has a nice wheaty flavour that digestive biscuits are known for. They have a lovely malted flavour when you bite into them and they are crunchy and firm. The chocolate chips add that extra boost of sugary sweetness and complement the biscuit perfectly. They are also an excellent accompaniment to a cup of tea, the biscuit softens up and literally melts in your mouth. Be quick though, as you can't dunk it for too long unless you want to lose the biscuit in your mug!
You will need to have some self control with these biscuits, my problem is that I open the packet and start munching away without thinking to stop when I should. It's easy to take another biscuit, and then one more etc etc and I often end up eating half a packet or more during my time sat in front of the computer when I'm at work. The packaging is not resealable and the biscuits that are exposed at the top become soft and crumble if they are not transferred to a biscuit tin or some other suitable container.
One of these chocolate chip digestive biscuits contains 80 calories. I usually have at least 3 to accompany my cuppa on tea breaks, so that's a whopping 240 calories for one of my daily snacks. There are also high levels of fat, sugar and saturates. These are tasty but extremely unhealthy and I am trying to eat a more balanced diet. Sadly it looks like I am going to have to be more strict and limit the amount of these biscuits that I am consuming on a daily basis.
Great value biscuits that taste yummy, but not so good for your body. I love them but my waistline doesn't thank me for it! 5 stars for flavour and value, and as long as I can stick to eating only a couple then it shouldn't make too much of a negative impact on my diet.
