“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Cereal Bars „
Tesco Cranberry cereal bars come in a box of 5, all individually wrapped, and are handy to have around when you're on the go. The box is priced at 89p so that works out to be around 18p a bar - pretty cheap! The packaging is attractive, with a bowl of cranberries on the front and a picture of a couple of cereal bars. There is also some nutritional information on the front - each cereal bar contains 105 calories, 7.2g of sugar and 1.3g of fat.
The back of the packet shows some additional nutritional information. The product is suitable for vegetarians but does contain milk, wheat, gluten and soya so may not be suitable for those who are allergic to these. The recipe itself contains no nuts but the ingredients and factory cannot be guaranteed to be nut free. The bars have been fortified with vitamins which include Niacin, Thiamin (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin B6, B12, Pantothenic acid (B5) and folic acid.
The cereal bar itself looks as it does on the front of the packet - the bulk of the bar is rice, wheat and oats with some red pieces of cranberries scattered about. The bar has a shiny, sticky-looking coating which is the glucose syrup holding the whole thing together. First impressions are therefore that it will be very sweet. Biting into the bar you get a variety of textures and flavours - the crispiness of the rice, the chewiness due to the glucose syrup holding it together and the tanginess of the cranberries. I liked the taste of these, especially the sharpness of the cranberries, but otherwise thought they were a little too sweet. However, that probably wouldn't stop me from buying these again!
