Well my son was quite pleased to buy this gateau as he thought it looked nice and was inexpensive.
We took it out of the freezer early Christmas morning and put it on a plate to defrost quietly.
This states it will serve five people which I think is about right.
After lunch I had to give someone a lift but when I got back our lunch had gone down slightly so son and I decided to have a slice of gateau each. Obviously it is sweet and unhealthy but for an occasional treat you ignore that sort of thing don't you?
The two layers of chocolate flavoured sauce sandwiching the sponge together had a lovely dark chocolate flavour and was very creamy. I also like the sponge parts - though obviously they were the synthetic type of cake. I really enjoyed my slices but the only thing I was not too keen on was the thickness of the chocolate mixture covering the outside - which to me was too thick - but I am not over keen on too much icing or cake coverings in any form really - so I just left some of mine.
The box states to consume within 24 hours which is quite correct. The next day we still had some left so son and I were going to finish it up but the cake covering had gone all sort of frothy and slimy - so definitely eat as soon as it is thawed as we threw the rest away.
However for a cheap product we liked it and it would make an inexpensive dessert.
4 stars. A bit synthetic and sweet but fine for the price.
