Tesco Fig Rolls
Advantages: tastes good, soft
Yesterday I bought some ready made sweet treats for us. One of them was Tesco's own brand Fig rolls. They come in a dark red wrapper and there are two cookies on the wrapper. The fig rolls look exactly as shown on the picture. When I open the wrapper I found that the rolls have no intensive scent. I thought the fig will have lovely scent but you can hardly smell anything. Anyway the rolls are very soft and you can eat a roll for 2 bites (or one big). About one third of the roll is the fig filling in it so it gives the whole roll a very sweet fig taste. I think the fig filling is prepared to jam. It is very thick and there are little fig seeds in it. The fig jam is very sweet. The rolls are very light in colour and they are soft. Even my sons can eat them easily and they like it.
The ingredients are as follows: Figs (32%), Wheat Flour, Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Vegetable Oil, Partially Inverted Sugar Syrup, Whey Powder, Salt, Raising Agent (Ammonium Bicarbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate), Citric Acid (Citric Acid).
I forgot to count the rolls in the pack but I think there were 12 in it. The pack contains 200 g of rolls which in our family of 4 disappeared in about 5 minutes. The rolls are quite good for the price they are available I think. You can buy them in Tesco shops or online from Tesco.com for 35 pence. The original ones made by Jacobs may taste better but they cost one pound for the same quantity and they contain only 23% fig.
The nutritional information may be useful too. The energy content of 100 g of yummy rolls is 375 kcal which is normal in case of such a sweet treat. Its carbohydrate content is 69.3%. So I don't think this is the best way of eating some figs. They are wrapped in lovely rolls but they will be a rare treat at us.
To sum up it is a delicious fig filled soft roll with really much fig jam in it. It has no tempting fig scent but it is very delicious and extremely sweet. There are fig seeds in it so take care when you give them to the kids some of them may have some red dots on their body. Some children have allergy reaction to the seeds of fruits and vegetables (tomato, strawberry, aubergine, etc.). I gave my younger one only 1 roll and 2 for my elder one. I think the price is very good for them but as I try to keep us in shape we rarely eat such sweet treats.
Summary: Recommended as special treat!
