“ Brand: Tesco / Type: Bread „
I love Garlic Bread and although more often than not I buy a Garlic Baguette, I like a change sometimes and that's why I get these. They are larger than a Garlic Bread Baguette slice and cook in a shorter time as well.
These are in the chiller section of Tesco and cost my £1 for 9 slices. You can often get this in frozen packs as well, and you can freeze the fresh pack too.
The packaging is alright. The slices are stacked on top of each other and on a deep plastic tray. The whole thing is wrapped in a cellophane wrapper and you can see the slices through the pack.
The good thing about these is that you can just pop a few in the oven if you are looking for a little bit of Garlic Bread, so you don't have to cook a whole baguette. The cook in about 5 minutes in a 200oc oven.
The Garlic Butter is spread on 1 side of the slice. There is a thin crust all the way around the edge of the slice and I find this is the part that crisps up the quickest. There isn't that much Garlic Butter on this. There looks lke quite a bit but that taste isn't that strong, more a subtle taste. The Bread is quite thick and although the top get a bit crisp, the Bread inside stays nice and fluffy.
Each slice has 100 calories and 4.4g.
A nice bit Garlic Bread at a good enough price.
As I was having pizza the other day, I can't just eat a couple of slices and be done with it, so as I had to share the pizza I brought a pack of 9 Tesco garlic slices which cost £1.00 per pack, as an accompliement so I did not eat all the pizza.
Tesco garlic slices come in a clear and green packet with Tesco Italian 9 Garlic slices written on in white with slices of crusty white baguette topped with garlic and herb butter - Bakes in 6 minutes. There is also the nutritional value on the front for each slice - 1 slice = 100kcal - 0.7g sugar - 4.4g fat - 2.5g saturates - 0.3g salt.
On the back of the packet is cooking instructions oven at 200 degrees for 5-6 minutes, along with freezing guidelines, allergy advice (no nuts, but cannot guarantee as made in a factory which uses nuts - suitable for vegetarians), ingredients, and storage instructions and more nutritional value for 100g and each 30g slice.
Each packet of 9 garlic slices costs £1.00 and can be found in the chilled area next to all the pizza's in Tesco.
On opening the packet the pizza slices are in a clear plastic tray which is easy to remove, I separated all the slices which is easy but a few do tend to stick together so some of the garlic topping sticks to the bottom of the previous slice but this does not make a difference to the taste. I placed all of the slices on my oven shelf and followed cooking instructions and found that they cooked in 6 minutes - as packet stated (i like mine a little crispy around the edges, if you don't I would suggest 5 mins).
These slices cook lovely and evenly which was really good as I often find with the baguettes that are together the garlic butter never melts very well and by the time it has you have burnt the bread, so I find these a lot easier. Also these are great because I also freeze mine and sometimes only take out a couple at a time when I want to use them.
The slices are quite garlicy but are not overpowering and you do get a good taste of the garlic (trust me you don't want to kiss someone who has been eating these). As I said I like mine a little crispy around the edges but they do stay nice and soft in the middle.
I would definitely recommend these as they cook well, have a really good flavour and the taste is not too overpowering and as they only cost a £1.00 who can complain. My only disappointment is why do they not put 10 in pack, putting 9 in seems a little weird.
